I moved back to the bed, taking a seat beside her, now knowing why she had been so secretive about going to the cemetery. It was clear that she was trying to figure out why her mother had left and why the same thing that happened back then to her mother was now happening to her and our town.
It had me too, wondering what the connection could be, and why the elders of the pack had kept what happened all those years ago hushed. Looking back, I can’t remember one instance when my grandmother or my father spoke about my Uncle Ethan’s death, leading me to wonder what truly happened to him.
As I stare at Raven laying all battered on my bed, I now realize that this was all my fault, because I was too scared to tell her the truth about our world and who she truly was to me and my brothers. By keeping our world a secret from her, it was keeping her in the dark of how dangerous this situation truly was, but I still couldn’t bring myself to tell her, especially since once again she was attacked by one of my kind.
Taking Raven’s hand into mine, I knew that I needed to earn her trust and make her understand that she could count on me, and that when the time came, and we told her the truth, she would see that we weren’t
like the wolves that attacked her.
Rubbing the back of her hand with my thumb, trying to soothe her worries about what I might think about her, I finally said to her, “Raven, I want you to know that you don’t sound crazy, but I wish that you would have come to me first. It’s not safe for you to be running around this town by yourself, trying to solve this mystery on your own. By the sounds of it, it’s just as much my family’s mystery as your own, and I want to help you in solving it. Plus, we need to find out why this rogue wolf keeps attacking you.”
“Wolves.” Raven says, correcting me, and my eyes widen as I take in what she was saying, before she continues to tell me, “The one that attacked me at the cemetery, wasn’t the same wolf that attacked me at
school. This one was dark brown but had the same red eyes as the first one.”
“Are you positive?” I asked her as I moved to stand, knowing that we had an even bigger problem on our
hands if this was true.
Shaking her head, she says to me, “Yeah, I am positive. Pius, this one today smelled so badly, I don’t think I
am ever going to forget its smell.”
My eyebrows now furrowed as I stared at her, wondering what she meant by its smell. But then she says to
me, “I don’t think I will ever be able to eat eggs again.” Making me realize that she was able to smell a
rogue’s scent, which would be impossible for a human.
My mind instantly went back to what Mazie had said at the cemetery about Raven ordering her to leave
her, and I had to wonder if there was truth to what Mazie had said. But as I tried to reach out to sense a
wolf in Raven, I came up short feeling nothing from her, making me believe that maybe it had something to do with her being our mate.
Having a human mate was new to our pack, especially a Luna, taking us to uncharted territories of the possibilities of what our mate bond could have on her. Maybe there was a possibility that Raven was able

to order Mazie with her being the chosen Luna of our pack. Whatever it was, it was clear that Raven was beginning to possess abilities of our kind, leaving me to wonder what abilities she would receive not being a wolf herself.
“Is everything okay?” Raven now asks me as I must have zoned out, thinking about the possibilities of what could be happening to her.
Shaking my head, not wanting to alarm her with the truth of how bad this could be, I said to her, ” Everything is fine. Why don’t you get some rest, and I will inform the game warden that we may have a pack of rogue wolves on our hands.” Before, I leaned down and placed a kiss on her forehead, and then quickly moved to leave my bedroom, not giving her time to argue with me, as I needed to talk to my father about the situation we had on our hands now.
Plus, I also needed to get to the bottom of what happened all those years ago with Raven’s mother and my uncle, and I was sure that my father knew, but the question is whether he would be at liberty to talk to me about it. Nevertheless, the picture that I had stolen from Raven’s room now made sense to me, as it was clear that history was repeating itself, but I wasn’t going to allow it to run Raven out of this town, like it did her mother.
