Moon Phased: The Triple Claim novel Chapter 116

Chapter 63-1

Chance’s POV

“You’re just the person I was looking for.” I told my father as I got to the foot of the steps, just as he came walking into the house.

“It’s been a long day, Chance. Can this wait until later?” My father says, as he heads towards the kitchen, obviously to find something to eat, because we had all missed dinner tonight because of Raven’s attack.

“Actually, no. This can’t wait.” I insisted, as I followed him into the kitchen, knowing that I must tell him about there being a pack of rogues.

My father pulled a container out of the refrigerator and plopped it down on the kitchen island with a loud thud, before he said, “Fine. What is so important that it can’t wait.”

“The wolf that attacked Raven today isn’t the same rogue from the other day. I believe we have a pack of rogues on our hands too. We need to get out there and hunt them all down and drive them out of our territory, before they hurt someone else.” I quickly explained to him, thinking that he would be shocked to hear this information and ready to head back out to find these rogues, but as he opens the container, pulling out a drumstick, taking a big bite out of it, I realize that what I had just told him didn’t even phase

him.

“You already know about this.” I now said to him shockingly, as I went to take a seat at the island, wondering what all he knew that he was keeping from me.

With a mouth full of chicken, he says to me, “Don’t look so surprised. I have been patrolling this territory for days now, hunting this Alpha rogue. I have picked up multiple rogue scents, and that is why the town is still on a high alert. Unfortunately, your age group isn’t taking these alerts as seriously as the rest of the pack is. Would you like to explain to me what Raven was doing in our cemetery in the first place? She was lucky that I was in the area with the trackers when you reached out to me for help. You realize how badly

this could have ended for her.”

Of course, he was going to give me the third degree about what happened today, not like I didn’t already feel responsible for allowing her to get hurt under my watch. I knew damn well what could have happened to Raven, and if he didn’t think I already felt sickened by the thought of it, he was trying to make me feel

even worse than I already did about it.

But before I could defend myself, he then said to me, “Your actions recently are proving to me that you aren’t ready to take this pack over any time soon. Your brothers and you can’t even agree to disagree, and

you continually make poor decisions. I think it is best if the three of you sit this one out, since none of you

are responsible yet to step up, and let me and my men take care of this.”

I sat there dumbfounded by the way he was belittling me, knowing damn straight that I had proven myself to him time and time again, and that I was more than ready to take over this pack. I had to wonder if this had something to do with maybe unfinished business he may have had from his own past involving

Raven’s mother, his brother, and the fallen pack members that Raven just spoke of to me, as it was clear he didn’t want us involved for some reason, and the reasoning he was giving me was out of characteristic of how he just praised me weeks ago.

Yes, I had fallen short of telling him about the Alpha rogue, and I was still feeling guilty for Josie’s death,

but I had learned from that mistake and that was why I came immediately to him with this information. I

had to wonder if this was his way of punishing me for it, even though Cash had stopped me from telling him the full truth of when we discovered the Alpha rogue, leading me to believe that Chase had spoken to

our father, revealing the full truth to him.
