Chapter 68-1

Chance’s POV

I remained low, hiding in the shadows of the forest and the darkness of the night’s covering, as I tried to rack my mind on what the hell was going on here, while my mind went back to the night that Cash found Josie’s body. I remember staring down into my uncle’s empty grave, and the look of dread my father had on his face. It had me wondering now if he knew his brother was alive all this time, living on the edge of our land, hidden deep within the mountains, and out of everyone’s sight.

I couldn’t rack my mind around why he was said to be dead, and why there was an actual grave for him, when it was clear that he was alive and well, standing only a few yards in front of me. For some reason, my wolf felt uneasy, as if he could sense something was off himself, as I watched my uncle turn around and head towards the door of the cabin, dismissing the noise that he had just heard. But before he made it to the door, the sound of someone coming from the opposite direction echoed through the silence of the night’s forest, drawing him to the other edge of the porch.

Unable to see who was coming, my wolf raised his head slightly, just as curious to see who was approaching the cabin. Finally, a wolf appeared in the clearing, as his scent carried in my direction with the night’s cool breeze, revealing that it was none other than my father.

Shifting immediately into his human form, he says to his brother, “A rogue attacked Carla’s daughter in the cemetery today. I thought you said that you had our rogue issue under control?”

“Is she alright?” My Uncle Ethan asked, hearing his voice for the first time, thinking how much he sounded just like my father.

“She will live, but only because I got there in the nick of time to stop the rogue from killing her.”

“What the hell was she doing in the cemetery in the first place?” My uncle now asked him, as I patiently waited to hear my father’s answer, wondering if he knew the truth of why Raven was there.

“I believe she is looking for answers about why her mother left here. This girl is so much smarter than Carla was, if that is even possible. I honestly don’t think it’s going to be long before she finds out about the truth of what happened all those years ago.” My father explains to my uncle, confirming that Raven was onto something.

I couldn’t help but wonder now what happened all those years ago, and why my uncle was presumed dead. It was clear that not only the elders had secrets, but so did my own family.

“Your sons are sure that she is their fated mate?”

My father nodded his head, before he said to him, “There is no doubt that she is. Chance and Cash have accepted her, but Chase is another story.”

“You know that it will never work if all three aren’t on board and that she willingly accepts them all as her mates. You saw what happened when Carla denied me. I barely escaped the attack with my life. I think it is time you had a talk with the boys and tell them the truth about what they are getting into, like our father should have done with us. Our uncle lost his life because of our family’s secret, and I don’t want to see any more of our family’s bloodshed over it.”

My father let out a growl, and I didn’t know if it was out of frustration that his brother wanted him to tell us

about what the hell was truly going on, or if it was the fact that Raven was our fated mate. It was clear Though that Raven’s mother had been involved with whatever happened all those years ago, but I don’t know what actual part she played in it, other than she had denied my uncle, now worrying me if Raven would do the same thing with my brothers, especially with Chase. By the sounds of what my uncle was saying, it was crucial that Raven accepts all three of us, but I had to wonder why.
