“Honestly, I don’t think the three of them can handle the truth just yet. They aren’t as close as we were, and I don’t see them making a sacrifice for the pack like we did.”
“You mean like I did.” My uncle says, correcting my father, and I felt like I could hear a little animosity in his
tone.
“It was your choice to make Carla believe that you had died along with the others.” My father said, trying to deflect the blame back to his brother.
“Look at my face, brother. If she denied me when I was whole, then there was no way that I stood a chance with her, looking like this. Besides, if I hadn’t made this sacrifice, we both know that more of our pack members would have died, and the blood would have been on our hands. Plus, you stood a better chance on your own, and without me our Alpha bloodline would continue, not allowing our uncle’s death to go in vain.”
My father’s head lowered, clearly feeling the guilt of being the one that had survived whatever happened unscathed. Shaking his head, my father now says, “We could have found another way.”
“No brother, there is no other way and we both know that. Either Carla’s daughter leave’s Beaumont before her eighteenth birthday, or history will repeat itself.”
“No, there has to be another way. I don’t want my boys to endure the pain of losing their fated mate like we did.” My father tells my uncle, clearly feeling his own pain for losing Raven’s mother, but my uncle just shakes his head at my father, before he says, “You need to tell them the truth and let them decide. The rogue Alpha has already attacked once since she arrived, and you know that was just a warning of what is to come if she stays unmated to them all.”
“I need time to think about it.”
“Time is running out.” My uncle now tells him, and he has no clue what little time we were actually working
with.
Raven’s birthday was less than a week away, and Raven had remained just by my side, even with Cash’s constant advances towards her. As for Chase, I had no clue what the hell he was up to. He claims that he wouldn’t accept her as his mate, but then secretly has been watching over her.

My father was right when he said that the three of us couldn’t agree to disagree, and now I know why he was so adamant about us coming together as one. From what my uncle was saying, the weight of what happens in the next week or so rests on our shoulders with the decision we all make, including Raven.
I already felt the guilt for Josie’s death, and I didn’t want to bear the weight of another pack member, but then I also didn’t want to give up the mate bond that our Moon Goddess had blessed us with. If my father would only come clean with what was really going on here, then maybe we could all come together and figure out a way to avoid the whole thought of Raven having to leave Beaumont, to save our pack members from this Alpha rogue.
“I know this better than any of us, as I was the one that had to tell a mother and father that their daughter wasn’t coming home, knowing that it was my family that had caused her death.”
“Then you know what must be done to stop it all from happening again.” My uncle once again tells my

“will do what is necessary to protect the pack and my family.” My father says sternly to my uncle, before
he turns and begins to walk away from him, leading me to believe that he and his brother had their own sets of problems, just like my brothers and I do.
My uncle’s head turned to look in my direction at that moment, and I could swear he was staring right at me, as if he knew I was watching him and my father this whole time. As he remained staring in my direction, he said to my father, “My nephews have a right to know the truth, and it is solely their decision what they want to do. If you don’t tell them, then will, so they have a fighting chance at what is coming for them.”
My father didn’t even turn around to acknowledge what his brother said to him, but instead, he shifted into his wolf and took off back the way he had come. My uncle remained standing on the porch for a few seconds, staring in the direction that my father had disappeared in, before he turned his head, staring directly at me once again.
My uncle looked as if he had nodded his head at me, before he turned to walk into his cabin, leaving the door open, as if he was inviting me to join him.
