Chapter 73-2
One could say that the playing field wasn’t even, as there seemed to be an endless supply of them, but damn it, Chase and I were from Alpha’s blood, and there is no reason why we shouldn’t be able to handle a couple dozen of them ourselves. But for some unknown reason, each time I sank my teeth into one of their necks, causing their warm blood to drip back into my throat, it burnt like a mother fucker, and I instantly felt myself losing my strength.
Now a bit woozy on my own two feet, I begin to stumble back, losing my footing, as my wolf shakes his head, trying to shake away whatever the hell is causing this. Chase at that moment stumbles back into me, and we find ourselves back–to–back, as the rogues now begin to circle us, like we were now easy prey.
My vision slowly became abstract, as the rogues in front of me felt like they were doubling right before my eyes, making me question if, somehow, we were being poisoned. The rogues at that moment began to taunt us, and my wolf swung his claws at them, only to come up empty with each swing.
Squinting my eyes closed, I tried to reach out to Chase through our mind link, asking him if he felt like he too was being poisoned, but I realized quickly that the link had been severed with whatever this shit was that they were poisoning us with. All hopes of calling out to Cash for
back up went out the drain too, leaving the two of us sitting ducks.
Chase, at that moment, tried to take a swing at the rogue that was standing directly in front of him, but as he swung at full force, he ended up falling straight on his damn face, leaving him as an easy target for the rogues. Even though I was hanging on by a thread, I stumbled forward, placing myself between the rogues and my brother, willing to die to protect him, even though I wanted to strangle his ass on most days.
I knew that I didn’t have much steam left in the kettle, and whatever it was that was
poisoning my brother and me, it was weakening me by the second. Thankfully, they didn’t know that, and I needed to put on a good show, making them think that I was immune, in the hopes of buying us some more time.
Mustering up as much strength as I could, I took a deep breath, letting out the loudest and fiercest Alpha growl that I could muster, making them all take a step back, as I stepped over my brother’s wolf’s body, claiming my protection over him. The rogue wolves stared at me as they stood their ground now a few feet back, as if they were watching for any signs of foul play on my behalf. It was taking every ounce of strength I had left in me to hold my stance over my brother, not allowing them to see a single sign of weakness from me.
Of course, one of the rogues stepped forward to challenge me, and I bared my canines at him, as I let out another growl, accepting his challenge, even though I was in no shape or

form to accept it. Composing myself, I took a step forward, strategically placing myself between the rogues and my brother, not allowing them to be able to get past me.
Unfortunately, the rogue that had just challenged me wasn’t going to give me any time to prepare for his challenge, as it was clear he was calling my bluff as he leaped straight for my throat. Thankfully, my body instantly reacted to the threat, catching the rogue in midair, but my weakness from the poison at that moment showed through the façade I was trying to hold, as I was barely able to hold my grip on the rogue.
I tried my best at that moment to hold back my fear, as I realized that we were both doomed, and that my father was right that we weren’t ready for what was coming for us. But I was an Alpha damn it, and I would fight to my last breath, taking as many of these damn rogues with
Leaving out another growl, this time with determination, the earth beneath my feet began to shake, as I snapped the rogue’s neck, tossing his body to the ground, while I once again stumbled backwards, egging the other rogues to bring it on.
This time my wolf let out a howl, claiming his defeat over his challenger, trying to show his dominance even in his frail state. As my wolf lowered his head, it was clear that the little act I had been putting on was ousted, as the rogues began to once again form a circle around me.
Just as I was feeling like my end was near, and that there was no hope for us, especially seeing Chase’s wolf laying motionless behind me on the ground, the earth once again began to shake. Out of the darkness of the forest, a pure black Alpha wolf rose from its depths, barreling straight towards us.
Lowering his head, he plowed through the rogues like they were nothing, sending them flying in all directions, as he let out an Alpha growl of his own, putting mine to shame. The remaining rogues came at him with a vengeance, and to my surprise he stood tall, taking them all on like they were nothing to him. I stood there in awe, watching this Alpha fight with so much conviction and skill, wondering where the hell he had come from, as I had never seen anyone possess his kind of combat skills before.
The rogues quickly realize they didn’t stand a fighting chance against this skilled Alpha, making them take off running for their lives, as he snaps the neck of the rogue in his grasp, not taking any prisoners or having mercy towards them.
As the Alpha slowly turned to look at me, my wolf stumbled backwards once again, not from the poisoning this time, but from the realization that this wolf standing in front of me was no other than my Uncle Ethan, as his scar was even more predominant in his wolf’s form.
Shifting into his human form, he raced towards us, kneeling at Chase’s side, as he lowered his head to Chase’s chest, before he says, “You two have been poisoned by wolfsbane. I have

I looked down at Chase, as his body slowly shifted back into his human form, to see black veins now running up his arms, realizing just how close death was knocking on our doors. My uncle didn’t waste another second, swooping Chase up in his arms, taking off, running back in the direction of his cabin, as I turned to follow him, realizing I had no other choice but
to trust him.
