Raven’s POV
barely heard Cash’s feet tramping the floorboards of the stairs, before I heard him say, Raven is right. Chance is infected too.”
My eyes stayed steady on Chase’s eyes, even though in my heart I felt the need to go back to Chance to make sure that he was stable. My mind felt torn, and my heart felt heavy in my chest, as I felt like I was torn between who I should be with, and I hated the feeling it was
giving me.
Never in a million years did I ever think Chase would be in this equation, and here he was holding onto my hand, as if it was his last lifeline. But as Cash moves to my side to check on his brother, Chase’s eyes veer from me to Cash, breaking whatever voodoo kind of hold he had on me.
I didn’t even realize that I had been holding my breath this whole time, as my lungs now gasp for air, while Chase retracts his hand from mine. My body lingered while I remained bent down on one knee beside the couch, as I stared at Chase, now wondering if he had just used me for whatever this damn mate thing could do for him.
For the first time since I arrived, this was the only time that Chase had shown me an ounce of compassion, but, of course, he was in a vulnerable state, and it was now clear that he did
it for his own benefit.
“Did you give him something? He looks better already.” Cash says to his grandmother, questioning her about Chase’s quick turnaround.
Their grandmother’s eyes moved to look at me, and through her tears now of gratefulness, she says, “It wasn’t me, but your mate, and the power of the bond you four share.”
I know that Mazie said that the Ryders weren’t a cult, but right now I can’t help but think that she was wrong about that, as their grandmother here was talking a tad bit crazy. On the other hand, I had seen Chase come around with just my mere touch, making me question if I was buying into all this crazy shit they were dishing out to me.
Getting to my feet, I headed straight for the front door, needing to get some fresh air, as I felt like I was possibly losing my mind. Stepping onto the porch, I welcomed the late morning breeze, that the forecasted afternoon storm was blowing in. Moving to the edge of the porch, I leaned against the rail, closing my eyes, as I took a deep breath, trying to calm the unsettling feeling I now had inside of me.
My mind and my body had both been overstimulated today, and I felt like I was

teeter–tottering on the edge of what little sanity I had left. As I slowly brought myself down from having an attack, I heard Evan’s voice from around the corner of the house talking to
someone.
At first, I didn’t pay much attention to it, but then something sounded really off, as it sounded as if he was talking to himself. Opening my eyes, I began to cautiously walk around the side of the porch, as I heard him now say, “You could have gotten the boys killed. You should have intervened before it went as far as it did.”
“I needed to know if they were ready.”
A low animalistic growl filled the air, making me stop dead in my tracks on the porch, as it sounded just like the growl I had heard from the rogue wolf, but even deeper. “I told you that they weren’t ready, and now they know more than they should.” A very angry Evan’s voice said, as if he was beyond pissed, talking through gritted teeth, making me wonder who was upsetting him.
Finding the will inside of me to continue around the side of the house, I began to once again. move towards where the voices were coming from. Just as Evan came into my view, I heard Cash from behind me ask, “Raven, are you okay?”
