Chapter 81-2
Claver.
Everyone was now turning to look at me, even Mazie, as they all glared at me, waiting for me to respond to Chance’s accusations, but I wasn’t the bad guy here, and I had tried to get in touch with each one of them after I had found out, unlike them.
Getting to my feet, I raised my hands towards them, as I said, “Hold up. I tried to get in touch last night with each one of you. Hell, I even called the house phone and spoke to our grandmother, who told me that the two of you were knocked out for the night, and that our father was nowhere to be found.”
I then turned my attention to Mazie, staring her straight in the eyes, as I said to her, “And I tried to call you, begging you to call me back because I needed someone to help me make a decision last night, but even with my numerous apologies, you never returned my call. So, don’t you all look at me like I am the bad guy here.”
“What decision?” Chance asks, and knowing him as well as I do, I should have known that would be the one and only thing that he picked up on that came from my mouth.
There was no reason now to try and sugarcoat what I had to do, as it was clear that everyone in this room was well aware that Raven was one of us, but what they didn’t know was the consequences that might
come with it.
“Turns out Raven’s grandmother is a halfling, and, unfortunately, that is the reason why she is in the hospital. Her Alpha side has been fighting to be set free all these years, and it has taken a toll on her human body. The doctor was surprised that she had even lasted this long, but said it had to do with her strong Alpha genes. Unfortunately, there is a chance that Raven could suffer the same fate as her grandmother, and I had to make a choice about whether we wanted to know if she would or wouldn’t.”
Chance moved at that moment to stand, as he said, “That’s a no–brainer. Of course, we would want to know, but also we need to know if there is something we can do to stop it from happening to her too.”
I shook my head at him, as he didn’t realize what I was saying to him. This wasn’t a matter of what we could do to stop it from happening, but a matter of whether it would happen, and when.
“There’s nothing we can do to stop it, is there?” Mazie says, finally speaking to me for the first time, and I turned and looked at her, shaking my head, letting her know that there wasn’t.
“So, Raven either shifts, or her wolf remains locked inside of her, eating at her hurman body. Great, this is even better than just being given a human mate for a Luna.” Chase says frustrated as he moves to stand himself, before he says, “Like I said before, brothers, count me out.”
A growl came simultaneously from Chance and I at the same time towards him, as we both couldn’t believe how heartless Chase could be. But Chase ignored us both, as he walked out of the room, already finished with our discussion before it truly ever started, as it was clear he was never willing to give Raven a true shot at being his mate.
“There has to be a way to bring her wolf forward.” Mazie says optimistically, and I wish there was a way, but I had never heard of such a thing in all the history of our kind before.
You’re either born with a wolf or without a wolf, but never had I heard of a wolf being trapped inside its host. Honestly, at this point, after finding out what was wrong with Raven’s grandmother, I think it would be best if Raven didn’t carry the wolf gene at all. None of us could sense her wolf, and it gave me hope that

she didn’t have an Alpha wolf stuck inside of her, but then, on the other hand, Mazie was adamant that Raven had given her an Alpha’s order.
“If there is a way, there is only one person that I believe will tell us the truth, and since it’s now a life–and eventually death situation, I believe he would be forthcoming with the information.” Chance tells us, but Mazie and I both stared at him, wondering who the heck he was talking about, as it was clear that all the elders in this town had secrets that they were keeping,
“Chance, no one in this town is going to talk. Trust me, I even tried getting the Rendell sisters to talk and they wouldn’t. Those two talked about everything and anything, but their lips went completely sealed when I asked them about what happened back then.” Mazie tells him, and I have to agree with her, because whatever happened all those years ago, no one in this town wanted to talk about it.
“You’re right. No one in this town would talk about it or help us, including our father, but I know someone that lives outside of town, who is more than happy to lend us a hand.” Chance says to us, gaining our full attention, as I was willing to sell my soul to the devil if that meant that Raven would live a healthy long life, but I had to wonder who this person could possibly be, since everyone in the pack seemed to be sworn to silents.
