Chapter 82-1
Chase’s POV
Within the confinements of my room, I conveniently eavesdropped in on the rest of their conversation, until I heard the three of them take off in their wolf form. There was no doubt in my mind that Chance was taking them to see our beloved uncle, who had been playing dead for the last two decades, who I was still on the defense to trust fully.
Honestly, at this point, I didn’t know if I trusted my own father, as he too had lied all these years to not just me, but my brothers too, as it was clear that he kept a dark secret that I was soon going to figure out.
Now, with the three of them out of the house and my grandmother fast asleep in her bed, exhausted from taking care of Chance and I last night, I snuck over to Cash’s room to see Raven fast asleep herself, on his bed. I stood in the doorway, not daring to go any closer to her, as I knew that I had to keep my distance, because I feared that I couldn’t control my wolf and his urges to make her his.
That was the difference between my brothers and me, as I was able to keep my emotions in check, and I knew where my boundaries were. I was also the brother that had always kept people at arm’s length, not trusting them so easily, as I wasn’t the fool that my brothers had me pinned to be. They obviously thought that Jessica had power over me, and that I was too far gone with her, but little did they know I had been playing her game for years now.
Although I knew that Jessica wanted the Luna position, and she would do anything in her power to get it, I didn’t hold that against her, because it was the desire of every she wolf. Actually, I had to give her props for going after what she wanted, and it showed me that she had initiative, and that was more than any other she wolf in our pack had. That was until Raven showed up.
I had everything planned out for taking Jessica as my mate, but since the day in the janitor’s closet with Raven, my whole world began to spin in total chaos. For days now, I have been secretly watching over her, feeling the need to protect her, as my wolf felt something alone with her in that closet.
At first, I tried to fight the feelings that were growing inside of me towards her, but the day in the cemetery when she showed little to no fear of my wolf, I couldn’t help but look at her differently. Raven wasn’t raised in our world, and knew nothing about our kind, but she seemed not afraid of the unknown, willing to trust me, and put her faith in my wolf.
It was crazy to think that this whole time we had her pinned as a mere human, when if we would have just opened our eyes, we would have seen the signs. Looking back, there is no way in hell that she should have been able to best Jessica or myself for that matter, but now knowing that her heritage stems from Alpha’s
blood, it all made sense.
Jessica didn’t stand a chance against Raven, even if Raven’s wolf never fully came forward, as Jessica was just a mere omega, and from what I know now, Raven comes from the original bloodline of this territory. In a way, it made me feel like this was her land, and that my family was just here on borrowed time, but after how many generations of Wilsons being born wolfless, it seems impossible for Raven to finally have a wolf.
It was now another reason I couldn’t allow myself to get attached to her, as her life was out of our hands and in the hands of our Moon Goddess. In all honesty, the thought of getting close to her, for her to only be stripped away from me, was too much for me to bear. I was still grieving the loss of our mother, and it

killed me each day. I opened my eyes to know that I wasn’t strong enough to protect her.
