Chapter 83-1
Raven’s POV
Honestly, I don’t know how could feel his presence before I even opened my eyes, but I knew Chase was near me, and I knew if he was, then something had to be wrong, because Chase normally doesn’t volunteer himself to be around me.
As my eyes opened and adjusted to the lighting, realized that I was not in Chance’s bedroom, but by the musky scent on the pillow, there was no doubt that I was now in Cash’s room in his bed. I must have fallen asleep on the drive home from the hospital, leading him to take me to his room, not wanting to wake me up after the night we had.
Just like yesterday morning, I woke up alone in bed, but this morning Chase was here hovering in the room, telling me something wasn’t right. Chase slowly turned back to look at me, as I moved to sit up in bed, wondering what now could possibly be wrong that he would be lurking near me.
But before either of us could say a word to each other, my phone rang in my pocket, and I quickly scurried to retrieve it, knowing that it could be the hospital calling me. As I pulled it out of my pocket, noticing the area code on the caller ID, I knew right away that it had to be the hospital. My heart instantly sank in my chest, as worry and dread filled me, knowing the state that I had left my grandmother in.
My voice was shaky, and my hand holding the phone was unsteady, as I answered the call, almost knowing that the person on the other end of the phone was calling me with bad news. Everything around me seemed to be falling apart, making me believe that I had some kind of curse on me.
“Ms. Knight, this is Logan Valley Memorial Hospital. We are calling to inform you that we had to move your grandmother, Ms. Wilson back to ICU. Unfortunately, we believe she had another heart attack, but we won’t know for sure until we get her test results back. For now, we have her in a drug–induced coma, hoping that it will stop her from taking another one, because honestly, her body is too weak and frail to withstand much more.”
Tears instantly began to pool in my eyes, as they slowly seeped from the corners. I was beyond too weak and exhausted to even try to hold them back, as I have had enough heartache and death these last couple of months to last me a lifetime.
Finding what little strength I had inside of me, I replied to the person on the other end of the call, “Please just keep her comfortable. I’m heading back right now.” Before I ended the call, throwing the blanket off my body, getting to my feet in a hurry.
But as I moved to stand up, I found myself unsteady on my feet, reaching for something to keep myself upright, as I realized quickly that the few hours of sleep that I had wasn’t quite enough to satisfy my body’s needs. Unfortunately, it was going to have to do, because I needed to get back to the hospital to be with my grandmother.
“What are you doing?” Chase asked me, with what almost sounded like concern in his voice, as I am trying now to get my bearings.
“If you must know, that was the hospital. They think my grandmother had another heart attack. They moved her back to the ICU, but it does not look good.” I explained to him, as I moved past him to the door, hoping that Chance was feeling a lot better today, because I knew that there was no way in hell that I could drive myself back to the hospital, as my eyes were still hanging heavy.
