hat?” I asked her as I slowly backed down the two steps that I had managed to take before my grandmother brought me to a halt.
“You heard me correctly. She left with your brother hours ago. Don’t look so surprised, she is
his mate too.”
To be honest, I wasn’t actually shocked, but now more worried about why she had left with him, as I was concerned that something might have happened to her grandmother in my
absence.
“Have you heard any news about Ms. Wilson?” I asked her, praying that wasn’t the reason that Raven had left with Chase, but something was telling me that would be the one thing that would bring the two of them together, as it was clear that they both still carried the
burden of their losses.
“I was just getting ready to call the hospital to check up on her.” My grandmother said as she moved towards the kitchen where our only house phone was located, and honestly, if it wasn’t for my grandmother and her old ways, we probably wouldn’t have one, but then again, our cell service around here sucks.
Chance and Mazie walked into the house at that moment, and Chance gave me a questioning look, as he knew I was in a hurry to see Raven and here I was standing in the foyer.
“It seems that Raven took off with Chase hours ago.” I told my brother as I turned to look at Mazie, wanting to see what her facial expression was going to be hearing this, when she was the one that said that it would never happen.
“What?” Actually came from both their lips at the same time, as it was clear they were both taken aback by our latest discovery, but in all honesty, I wasn’t.
The more I thought about it, the more I realized that Raven and Chase shared more in common than any of us did. The two of them were both so damn stubborn that it was going to be hard on them to compromise with each other, but that didn’t mean that it wasn’t going to happen.
I was just about to gloat a little with the two of them, when our grandmother came walking down the hallway from the kitchen, with a disturbed look on her face, making us all turn to look at her.

“Cash, I thought you said Ms. Wilson was at Logan Valley Memorial Hospital?”

My eyebrows furrowed as I looked at her confused, wondering why she was questioning Ms. Wilson’s whereabouts when it came to the hospital. “Yes, that is the hospital’s name.”
“Well, they claim they don’t have a patient by that name there, nor have they ever.”
“What?” I asked out loud, questioning if I had gotten the name of the hospital wrong, but I knew that there was no way that I had, as I remember seeing the hospital name plastered on the side of the building and on multiple items inside.
“Are you sure?” Chance now asked me, and I nodded my head at him, almost a hundred percent sure, but I now was questioning myself, because how could someone just disappear from the hospital’s records?
“I mean, I guess maybe I could have gotten it wrong, but how many hospitals are actually in Carrollton?”
“Only one.” My grandmother said as the look of worry began to plague her face, before she said, “They should never have taken her to a human hospital.”
Chance moved to our grandmother’s side, placing an arm around her, pulling her into his side to comfort her, while he said, “Maybe whomever you spoke with was mistaken, and just couldn’t find her in their database. How about I call back and see if I can find someone that
can help us find her.” As he steered our grandmother back towards the kitchen, trying to calm her down, as it was clear she was now worried about Ms. Wilson, and to be honest, so was I.
As the two of them moved down the hallway towards the kitchen, I heard Chase’s jeep driving up the lane towards the house. Mazie and I both turned at the same time, moving outside onto the porch, as I watched Chase drive like a bat out of hell up our lane.
I was sure if Raven was inside the jeep with him, she would be losing her mind, as I
remember Mazie telling me about Raven’s first experience with Chase driving and how it had sent her into a panic attack. Sure enough, when Chase brought his jeep to an abrupt halt right outside the house, Raven jumped out of the jeep and raced straight towards the house.
At first, I thought that she was running towards me, but I quickly realized that wasn’t the case, as she jumped into Mazie’s arms with tears pouring down her eyes, while I wondered what the hell was now going on.
