Moon Phased: The Triple Claim novel Chapter 170

Raven’s POV

+25 Points

I was unable the whole drive home to shake the unsettling feeling I had in the pit of my stomach. Unfortunately, with everything that had been going on, I hadn’t seen Mazie since the day of the attack at the cemetery, and I was beginning to think that I was a horrible friend.

Chase had assured me that Mazie was okay, but he had left it at just that. Now come to think about it, it was odd not to see her with Cash, since the two of them were inseparable, making me wonder if they were telling me the truth about her, or if they were trying to protect me. But as Chase turns off onto the lane that leads to their ranch, I quickly noticed Mazie’s car parked

beside Chance’s truck.

Movement on the front porch drew my attention, and when I saw Mazie alive and well beside Cash, I couldn’t help but jump out of the jeep as soon as Chase brought it to a halt. With my eyes solely on Mazie, I raced to the front porch, so happy to see her, that I pushed past Cash to get to her.

Mazie let out a gasp, as I pulled her into a bear hug, squeezing her tightly as if I thought I was never going to see her again. Barely able to speak or breathe from the tight hold I had on her, she said to me barely above a faint whisper, Raven, what is wrong? As if she knew something had happened.

Tears instantly began to pour from the corner of my eyes, as I couldn’t hold back my emotions any longer, especially now that we were back in Beaumont, and I was among my friends. Mazie’s hold tightened around me, as she now helped to hold me upright, while I tried not to lose it completely in front of them all, but I was in pain once again from losing my grandmother, and I knew from my last experience that I needed to leave the pain out.

What the bloody hell Chase did you do to her?I heard Chance say as he came storming out of the house with the screen door slamming behind him, outraged, thinking that Chase had done something to me to make me sob like that, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. If anything, Chase was there for me today, and he saved me from the doctor that I am now sure killed my grandmother.

Knowing that I had to stop Chance before he did something he was going to regret, I pulled from my embrace with Mazie and quickly moved in front of Chance, placing my hand on his bare chest to stop him from taking another step towards Chase, as I said to him, Chase didn’t do anything wrong. If anything, he saved my life today.

Chance let out what sounded like a huff, before he looked down at me, as if he was looking into my eyes to see if I was telling him the truth, but why would I lie to him about Chase? It

wasn’t a secret that I had a lovehate relationship with Chase, or should I say more of a hatehate relationship with him, and if he had done something to hurt me, I would be the first one to step forward to say so. But today, that clearly wasn’t the case with Chase, as I owed him my life for saving me.

What do you mean by he saved you?Cash asks, drawing everyone’s attention to me, even their grandmother, who had just stepped out onto the porch, probably to see what all the

commotion was about.

But as I stood there looking at them all, I honestly didn’t even know where to start or how to explain what the hell happened at the hospital. I turned at that moment to look at Chase, hoping that he could help me, as I didn’t know what to tell his brothers, but instead of telling them what happened with the doctor, Chase said blandly to them, Ms. Wilson, unfortunately, is no longer with us.”
