I stared at Raven with widened eyes, realizing that Cash may be right, and that there was a chance that the three of us could win her heart. It was clear that whatever happened in the last couple of hours had changed the way that Raven looked at Chase, but the question is, did it change the way Chase looked at Raven?

“Raven, I know this has to be a lot on you, especially after losing your parents. Maybe we should call the doctor…” Mazie began to say, but Raven was quick to stop her before she could even finish her sentence, making it very clear that she didn’t want to see any more

doctors.

“Absolutely not. I am perfectly fine. Actually, I am better than fine. For the first time, I am seeing things clearer than ever.” She says, making me wonder what the hell she meant by that, and if Chase had somehow spilled the beans already to her, but then she says, “You all

just aren’t getting it. There is a murderer loose here in Beaumont, and he is connected somehow to all the murders that happened all those years ago. My grandmother didn’t just die, she was murdered, and I almost shared the same fate as her, if it wasn’t for Chase

saving me.”

Raven then looked at Cash, before she continued to say, “The so–called doctor we thought was taking care of my grandmother, wasn’t even a real doctor. The real doctor was on vacation this month, and the man we met was being paid off to kill my grandmother and me. If it wasn’t for Chase and him not trusting anyone, I wouldn’t be here right now. He saved my life.”

Tears at that moment began to seep from the corners of Raven’s eyes, and Cash was quick to move to her side to comfort her, as I stood there in shock processing what she was saying. Our Uncle Ethan was right, as it was clear we weren’t dealing with just a normal rogue situation here. What I didn’t understand was why this Rogue Alpha King had gone as far as killing Ms. Wilson, because she was far too old and fragile to even make an impact on anything, but then my uncle’s words hit me like a ton of bricks.

I remember him saying to me that our grandfather and great uncle made a crucial mistake, and that was that they allowed the sons of the Rogue Alpha King to live, making me now realize why Ms. Wilson had been eliminated. It was clear that the other side had the same idea of cleaning up all loose ends, even if it was a wolfless elderly old lady.

As Cash held Raven in his arms, she tried to push him away, while she said to him, “We need to all work together, and we need to talk to Mrs. Jacobs. I believe she knows what happened all those years ago, and I believe she may be the only person in this town that will tell us.”

Mazie lets out a huff before she gets to her feet and moves towards the fireplace in the living room, while she muffles under her breath as if she was talking to herself. “I wouldn’t believe a single damn word that comes from that woman’s lips. She would do anything to run Raven out of this town to ensure her daughter’s future. Even to go as far as to make an offer to her.”

My eyes moved back to Raven, hearing every single word that Mazie had just said, wondering what the hell she was talking about when it came to an offer. Not able to control my needs to know, I asked Raven, “Wait, did Mrs. Jacobs, make you an offer?”

Raven’s eyes moved from me to Mazie, now standing across the room, as if she thought that Mazie had said something to me about it, but she didn’t, and I was beginning to wonder what all Mazie knew that she was keeping from me. It was clear that each of us had our own secrets, and on top of that we had also all been doing our own research. If we would just all work together like my uncle said we needed to, then maybe we could win this battle, not only for Raven’s heart, but to also keep her alive, and save this town.
