Moon Phased: The Triple Claim novel Chapter 186

Chapter 98-1

Clare

Chance’s POV

While my father called the Coroner, I took it upon myself to begin to search the house, hoping that there would be something that could lead us in the direction of finding the individual responsible for this. Clearly Ms. Wilson’s family had secrets, secrets only my family seemed to know about, but I had to wonder if Ms. Wilson knew about her family’s secrets herself.

I have been in the small house a couple of times, and have been as far back as Raven’s room, but I have never been past her door. The only room that had been left unseen by my eyes had been Ms. Wilson’s bedroom, whose door had always remained shut every time I had been here.

As my father continued to make the necessary calls, I wandered back the hallway towards the bedrooms, wanting now to know what lies beyond Ms. Wilson’s bedroom door, but before I got to her door, I peered inside Raven’s room. Her room, which was always wellkept, now looked like it had been ransacked, and I knew that it had to be from her quick grab of stuff, from just wanting to get out of here after finding her grandmother’s body.

In a way, Ms. Wilson’s body showing up here may deter Raven from wanting to come back to the house, and in a messedup way, I was good with that, as it pushed her even further into mine and my brotherslives. A part of me wondered if this rogue Alpha wolf was a fool, because he would do something that would make her want to run from here back to California, but then in his next step, he pushed her into mine and my brothersarms. It was as if he was bipolar and couldn’t make up his mind about what he wanted to do with her.

Drawing my attention back into the hallway, I proceeded the last couple steps to Ms. Wilson’s bedroom door. With my hand now on the handle of her door, I slowly turned it, before pushing the door open, to reveal its contents, which honestly wasn’t much of anything.

An old double bed lay against the far wall of the room, while a nightstand with an antique brass lamp sat beside it. Stepping into the room, I noticed a stack of overread romance novels sitting on top of a brokendown dresser, that had to have made its way through the last three decades or more. I had thought Raven’s bedroom was bad, but Ms. Wilson’s bedroom was even worse, and it seemed that she had given Raven the best of the furniture that she had.

My stomach turned into a knot, seeing how she had lived, when she should have been provided for all these years from the pack. Whether she had a wolf or not, she was from the original Alpha’s bloodline, and she should have been taken care of by the pack. It made me sick to know that my family had been the ones to fail her, and that she had lived in these conditions because of us. I wished that there was a way that I could make it up to her, but it was now too late to do so. The only way now to make things right was to make sure that Raven was provided for, and kept safe, as I knew that was what Ms. Wilson would want.

Stepping all the way into the bedroom, onto a very old and worndown Victorian rug, I looked around the room, at the bareness of it, wondering how anyone could live like this and be happy. For the past twenty years, Ms. Wilson had lived inside these walls alone, going to sleep every night by herself in this room, and I couldn’t even imagine how alone in this world she must have felt.

It had me wondering if our Moon Goddess had forgotten and forsaken her, as every one of the Moon Goddess’s creations were blessed with a mate to stand by their side throughout our time here in this world. Unfortunately for Ms. Wilson, she wasn’t given a life full of love and happiness, and it broke my

heart to know that my mate’s grandmother left this world, never witnessing the power of love between

mates.
