Chapter 98-2
A tall dresser on the far back wall caught my eye at that moment, drawing me away from my miserable thoughts. It actually wasn’t the dresser that caught my eye, but the little blue box that sat on top of it, that looked out of place.
I moved to take a step towards it but frose when I heard the floorboards beneath the rug making a loud cracking sound. Taking another step, I listened closely, realizing that the sound wasn’t normal.
Stepping off the Victorian rug, I began to roll it up, wanting to see the bare floor beneath it. To my surprise, there was a hidden trap door beneath the rug, but I knew in this area, these doors were normal, as they normally led to old fruit cellars. But this door was unusual, as it was located in the bedroom, and not the kitchen.
“What are you doing?” My father asks from the doorway, startling me slightly, as I never heard him coming, because I was so consumed by looking around Ms. Wilson’s bedroom.
“Have you ever seen one of these located in a bedroom before?” I asked my father, as I moved to the trap door, trying to pry it open, but it felt like it hadn’t been open for decades, as it barely budged when I tried to
move it.
“Can’t say i have, but then again, Ms. Wilson always claimed her father built this house, so maybe he purposely put it in the master bedroom.” My father tells me, like he didn’t believe it was a big deal, but something about it felt off.
Now, knowing that her father had built this house, it made me even more suspicious about why it was located here, and I wasn’t leaving this house until I saw what lay within this trap door.
“A little help would be nice.” I said to my father, as I tried to get a good grip on the handle, but I just couldn’t get my hands positioned right to get the grip I needed on it.
“Stop.” My father said as he moved inside the room, looking around, as if he was looking for something.
Getting down on his knees, he looked under the bed, before he reached under it for something. Pulling out a long metal bar, he gets to his feet, moving towards me, as he says, “These old doors normally worked on a levy system. Without a bar, they are almost impossible to open.”
I took a step back, giving my father room, as I watched him insert the flat edge of the bar beneath what I thought was the handle. Clicking the bar into place, he pushed easily down on the bar, and the trap door slowly began to open, seeping stale air into the room, telling me that the door definitely hadn’t been opened in a while. My nose began to tickle, as I knew if it had been daylight, and the sun had been shining through the window, you could probably easily see dust particles floating in the air.
Batting the invisible dust from in front of my face, I leaned down as my father lowered the trap door away from the opening. Pulling my cell phone out of my back pocket, I turned on the flashlight, shining it down into the space beneath the floorboards, exposing the hidden room beneath us.
As I moved the flashlight around, I noticed an old wooden ladder connected to the side of the opening. Placing my cell phone temporarily back in my pocket, I began to climb down the old rinky dink ladder with caution, as it creaked beneath my weight.
“Can you see anything?” My father asks me from above, as I make my way off the last step of the ladder,
placing my feet on the hard concrete floor beneath me.

“Give me a second.” I called up to him, as I pulled my cell phone out of my pocket, shining its light directly in front of me.
My eyes instantly widened as I stared at the concrete wall in front of me, as I yelled up to my father, “Are you sure Ms. Wilson’s father built this house?” Before I stepped forward to take a better look at the thick. metal chains that hung from it.
“I am a hundred percent sure. Ms. Wilson must have told me the story at least a hundred times that her father built this house with his bare hands.” My father tells me, before he took the easy way down, by just leaping through the opening, landing gracefully on his feet, but I didn’t pay much attention to him, as my eyes were focused on the shiny chains in front of me.
By the looks of things, this room had to have been used to contain one of my kind, but what I didn’t understand was why it was built directly under the master bedroom of their house, when the Wilsons had been wolfless for many moons.
Stepping even closer to the chains, the dried–up blood became more visible, that lined the cuffs attached to the chains, making me wonder just who this room had been built to contain, and who the blood belonged to.
Like a damn fool, I reached for the chains, taking one of them into my free hand, but it didn’t take long for me to realize that I should never have touched it. A low growl from the pain it caused me echoed throughout the contained room, while I tried to hold back a scream from leaving my lips, realizing that these chains were definitely to contain a wolf, and right now I held one in the palm of my hand, as it ate away at my flesh.
