Chapter 99-1
Chance’s POV
My cell phone dropped to the cement floor by my feet, as the smell of my flesh melting away from my hand was enough to make me sick, but the immense pain of feeling my skin burning beneath the chains made me want to pass out. It had only been seconds since I held the chains in my hand, but it was long enough for me to feel what they were meant for. There was now no question in my mind where the dried blood had come from, as I was sure that these chains and cuffs had melted through the last person’s flesh like butter.
“Give me your hand.” My father said, as he appeared in front of me with a pair of thick rubber gloves on that went up to his elbows.
I hesitated for a second, knowing that whatever he was going to do, it wasn’t going to be pleasant, but I knew it had to be done, because I couldn’t stay this way. Reaching my hand out to him, he gently took the chains in his hand, as I watched his nose scrunch from the smell of my flesh burning.
“Take a deep breath.” He tells me, as I watched him take one of his own, but before I could take my own, he began to pull the chains from my flesh, taking me down on one knee, as I gritted my teeth, while a low growl slipped from my lips once again.
I felt my father pull the last link of the chain from my flesh, relieving me from its agenizing pain, allowing me to finally take that deep breath as my hand closed, trying to seal away the pain. The sound of the chains hitting the cement echoed throughout the small hidden room, drawing my attention away from my hand and back towards the wall, as I watched the chains now cling against the wall.
“Let me see your hand.” My father now said, making me look down at my hand to see that my flesh was still sizzling.
Slowly, I began to open my hand, realizing that closing it was the worst thing I could have done, as my flesh now felt like it was all sticking together. Gritting my teeth, I bared through the pain, as I willed myself to open it, finally releasing it fully to the gruesome site that it had left behind. My flesh looked as if the chains had left a branding, as the meat beneath my flesh was exposed.
“Those chains are made out of pure silver.” My father said as he stepped away from me towards the wall of torture, before he just stood there staring at it, looking just as confused as I was.

Stepping to his side, I stood there, staring at the wall alongside of him, while I finally asked him the million–dollar question, “Why is this here?”
“Your guess is as good as mine.” My father said back to me, as he stepped towards the wall, plucking a single long dark hair from it, before lifting it up to his nose, taking in a long inhale.
A low growl rumbled from my father’s chest, before he turned to look at me and said, “Don’t speak to anyone about this room, not even your brothers.” As he ripped the gloves off his hands, tossing them on a small table that sat in the room, before he began to ascend the ladder back to Ms. Wilson’s bedroom.
Picking my phone back up off the floor, I took a moment to look around the room, knowing now that something had set my father off about it. I didn’t think that it was even the fact that it was meant to torture our kind, but that it was because he sensed that something had happened here.

But as I looked around the room, I realized that there wasn’t much in the room to see. A small table where my father had laid the gloves he took off sat in the corner of the room, with a few items on it that were
covered in years of dust, leading me to believe that my assumption was right about the room not being used in decades.
