Chapter 99-2
Beside the table was one small chair that looked like it was a part of the set of chairs that were in the kitchen upstairs, telling me that this room had been used after the kitchen set had been purchased. Unfortunately, there was no way to know when the furniture had been purchased, giving me no leads on when this room was last used.
“Chance, let’s go.” My father called out to me from above with the sound of irritation in his voice, making me wonder what the hell he had sensed when he was down here, putting him in this foul mood he was now in.
Unfortunately, I knew whatever it was, he wasn’t going to enlighten me on what had him so pissed off, as he had already stated he didn’t want me sharing the discovery of this room with my brothers. I hated to be the one to tell our father that it wasn’t going to happen, as I shared everything with my brothers.
There was no doubt in my mind that this is where he and his brother had gone wrong all those years ago, as secrets only drove barriers between the connections of Alpha twins and triplets. I had to wonder if what he discovered today he would share with his brother, or if he would keep this to himself, trying to solve what was going on alone, like he was a lone wolf, instead of a twin Alpha of our pack.
In a way, Chase reminded me of our father, as he was always off doing things on his own, but I had to give Chase credit where credit was due, as he did lead me to our uncle’s cabin in the woods, sharing his discovery that he was alive.
As I made my way back into Ms. Wilson’s bedroom, my father stood there at the entrance, waiting for me to climb back through the opening, before he lowered the trap door back down, locking it back into place. Stepping out of the way, he covered it back over with the Victorian rug, hiding from everyone else’s eyes to see, telling me he definitely wasn’t sharing this discovery with anyone.
Once it was completely hidden from the naked eye, my father turned to me and said, “Go straight home and have your grandmother get you something for your hand, but don’t you dare tell her about the room and the chains that caused it.”
I nodded my head, agreeing not to tell her, as I wouldn’t want to worry her anyhow, but in no shape or form was I agreeing not to talk to my brothers about it.
“Good.” Is all he said before he walked out of the room, leaving me standing there alone, as my eyes once again focused on the little blue box sitting on top of the tall dresser.
Of course, my curiosity got the best of me, making me move across the room to see what was in the blue box. With my good hand, I picked the box up, intrigued by the velvet box, wondering what could possibly be inside, but before I opened it, I noticed an envelope beneath it addressed to Raven. Instantly, I realized that this was Ms. Wilson’s birthday gift for Raven, and even though I was curious to see what was in the box, it wasn’t my gift to open.
“Chance, let’s go!” My father called out to me once again, and I knew he wasn’t going to let me hang out here a moment longer, in fear that I would discover something else.
Knowing this, I grabbed the envelope, not wanting to leave behind Raven’s gift from her grandmother, in fear that she wouldn’t receive it. If there was one thing that I could do for Ms. Wilson, now out of respect for her, it was to make sure that Raven received her birthday gift. Putting the small box in my pocket, I tucked the card in my pants, covering it over with my shirt, not wanting my father to see it, in fear that he

wouldn’t allow me to take it.
As I walked out of Ms. Wilson’s bedroom and into the hallway, I noticed that my father was standing in Raven’s room instead of the living room. His eyes were focused on the small vanity in the room, and I knew exactly what he was looking at, as I had seen the pictures of him and Raven’s mother taped to the vanity the other night when Thad stolen the group photo.
It was clear that my father wasn’t over Raven’s mother, and who could really blame him, as i couldn’t imagine the pain of losing Raven. It was something that I never wanted my brothers or me to ever have to go through, but as time goes on and her life continues to be in danger, I have to wonder if letting her go, knowing that she was alive and well, was the better alternative. But as I continue to stare at my father in the room, and see the pain he is in, I realize where he had gone wrong, and that was letting Raven’s mother go, as he continues to suffer with the guilt of what could have been.
