Unlike my brothers, Thave been successful thus far in resisting the temptation to give into those urges. But if I was being honest, the temptation was growing stronger by the day, and the sight now before my eyes was driving me completely mad, especially when I watched Cash nip at her collarbone, causing another growl to slip from my lips.

Unfortunately, the growl wasn’t just a mere growl, but an Alpha growl, one that made the floor beneath our feet shake, as my wolf left his possessive side be known. Cash stopped in the middle of what he was doing, as Raven’s head rose, while her eyes slowly opened to look straight at me over his shoulder.

Pure lust and desire filled her dilated pupils as they hungrily stared back at me, all while she whispered my name from her swollen lips. An instant hard on formed in my gym shorts, and there was no way of hiding it, as the material of the shorts rose to a full out tent in front of me.

Not wanting my brother to see my attraction towards our mate, I quickly turned and rushed out of the doorway, heading straight to my room. Slamming the door behind me, I leaned up against the door, while my heart now raced in my chest, as I was slowly beginning to lose my restraint towards our mate.

After spending the day with her today, and almost losing her, it felt like something inside of me had changed. It was as if I was starting to develop feelings towards her, feelings that I didn’t want to feel, because I knew that if something would happen to her, then I would never recover from it, as I was still recovering from losing my mother.

A sudden knock on my door had me jumping almost out of my shoes, as I wasn’t expecting it, but I knew who it had to be, even before I heard her delicate voice call out, “Chase, can we please talk?”

I remained standing against the door, as I looked down at my hard on still in my pants, knowing there was no way in hell that I could let her in my door with me like this right now, but then she says, “Please Chase.” And I could hear the pain in her voice, telling me that something had happened since I saw her last.

Spotting a pair of jeans, I quickly removed the gym shorts, pulling the jeans on, carefully tucking myself inside of them, hiding any signs of my attraction towards her, before finally opening my bedroom door.

Awkwardly, Raven stood there in the hallway staring at me, through her glossed–over eyes, not saying a word to me, as if she was waiting for something. Finally, she broke the awkward silence between us, as she finally asked me, “Can I please come in?”

Looking over my shoulder at my room, I became nervous, realizing how messy my room was compared to my brothers‘ rooms. Never, was I planning on having company, nor did I spend much time here to even worry about the cleanliness of it. But here Raven was, standing outside my door, and I knew that she wasn’t going to leave until I let her in, to talk.

Slowly, I pulled my bedroom door the rest of the way open, as I stepped to the side, allowing Raven access to my room, while I tried to hold my breath as she stepped past me. Her sweet arousal from my brother still lingered on her, and I couldn’t help but want to slam my door shut and take her myself, but I knew I had to control myself and my urges, as this wasn’t what either of us needed or wanted.

Raven only gave my bedroom a quick glance, before she turned around to face me, and when our eyes met, tears began to seep from the corners of her eyes, as she says to me, “We found my grandmother’s corpse sitting in her recliner at her house tonight.”

“What?” asked her, shocked by what she was telling me, as I couldn’t believe that someone would have Taken her body from the hospital morgue, and then drive her all the way back here.

Tears now began to flow down her cheeks, as she tried to say through her sobs, “Who would do such a thing, Chase?” Before she threw herself at me, wrapping her arms around my waist, as she held onto me tightly, wanting me to comfort her.

My arms hovered over her, as I tried to refrain from giving in, but as the sobs continued to come from her, I began once again to feel her pain as my own. Before I knew what was happening, I was holding her tightly, trying to soothe her pain away, as I said to her, “don’t know, but I can assure you, I will do everything in my power to find out.”

It was at that moment that I realized that I couldn’t continue to deny her. Yes, Raven was my mate, but that didn’t mean that I had to be with her to still feel the need to protect her. She had been through enough, far more than I had, and I would be damned if I was going to allow another person to lay a hand on her or cause her more pain.

Tomorrow I was going to make sure that I took care of one of the rogue Alphas, and after he was taken care of, I was going to seek the next one out, taking care of him too, until all of them were dead, and the threat to Raven’s life was over with.
