Chapter 108-2
Once again, out of the corner of my eye, I spotted movement around the same boulder, and I began to wonder if my humming was drawing the silver wolf out to me, or if it was the simple fact that I had taken a seat before them, showing them that I wasn’t a threat. Either way, what I was doing seemed to be working so I took another deep breath and continued to hum, while I watched out of the corner of my eye, the silver wolf slowly showing himself to me.
Not making any sudden movements, I slowly turned my head to look in the direction of the silver wolf, as I continued to hum the soft melody. When my eyes finally landed fully on the wolf, there was no denying that this was the wolf from the cemetery, as I would remember those sad eyes of his from anywhere.
Tilting his head to the side, he stared at me, as I could have sworn I saw tears forming in his golden eyes, as he just stared at me as if he was memorized by the soft melody I was humming. Cautiously, he continued to step towards me, as his nose lifted in the air, and I couldn’t tell if he was sniffing the surrounding air, or if he was sniffing back tears like a human would.
When he moved within my reach, I slowly extended my hand towards him, as a soft smile formed on my face, happy to see that it was him, because I honestly felt a sense of protection in his presence. Just like in the cemetery, he allowed me to run my hands through his soft mane, while he pushed his head into the palm of my hand, as if he wanted me to pet him.
As the song carne to an end, so did my humming, and I looked down at my old friend, as I said to him, “1 am so happy to see you.” Before I leaned down and placed a kiss on the top of his head, as I felt at ease, knowing that he was here, because if he protected me from the rogue wolves, I knew I would be safe here among his pack with him.
But just when I began to relax, the sound of falling rocks drew my attention back in front of me, as my eyes spotted a second silver wolf. As I took in the silver wolf’s appearance now making his way down to me, it became undoubtedly clear that he was the one from the ranch today.
Freeing up one of my hands, I extended it slowly to the second silver wolf, urging him to join us, as I felt a sense of ease now coming over me being in both their presence. It was crazy when you really thought about it, that the thing that I fear the most in this world right now was also the same thing that was making me feel safe. But just like everything else in this world, good and evil were present and there was a clear difference between the two wolves that I was now petting, verses the ones that were out to kill me
Just like back at the ranch, the second silver wolf slayed me, with a lick of his wet tongue the whole way up the side of my face, and I was beginning to see that he was more affectionate and more of a lover than the first one, just like Chase had told me he was. It had me wondering how well Chase knew these wolves and if his brothers too knew them well, as it was clear that Chase knew their personalities
But as I thought about that, I couldn’t help but stare into the first one’s eyes, thinking about how much hys eyes reminded me of Chase’s, making me begin to question the whole spiritual animal thing, among the natives of our country. I know that I might sound delusional, or maybe even crazy, but as I looked at the two of them side by side, I couldn’t help but think how much the other one reminds me of Cash, especially with how affectionate he is, well the other one was more reserved, but also protective just like Chase had shown me he could be towards me.
My eyebrows actually furrowed at that moment as I stared at the two of them, and the whole spiritual animal thing really didn’t seem so farfetched to me, because as I continued to stare at them, these two
Chapter 100–P
wolves were dead ringers for Chase and Cash. The whole concept was beyond crazy when you thought about it, but there was no denying that these two wolves were identical to them
The only thing was, the two of them were getting along, and they weren’t at each other’s necks, trying to kill each other, like Chase and Cash always were. It was definitely much more relaxing among them, not having to feel like I was in the middle of a constant feud, and feeling like I was the reason behind each argument that they had.
Instead, these two were snuggling up against me together, sharing the attention that I was giving them, as they were both now showing me the kind of affestion a domesticated pet would be giving me. I was so taken back and lost to what was happening right in front of me with the two silver wolves that I had failed at paying attention to my surroundings, that by the time I glanced up, a massive third wolf was standing directly behind them.
Fear instantly washed through the entirety of my body, as I stumbled to get to my feet, while I tried to take a step back from the massive black wolf that looked like he was stalking towards me. My heart was racing a mile a minute in my chest, as this wolf reminded me of the wolf that haunted my dreams since the attack in the girls‘ locker room at school.
Its presence now had me once again questioning why Evan had brought me here, and why he had so conveniently disappeared, leaving me at the mercy of the wolves. I found myself looking over my shoulder towards the horses, wondering if I could flee from here without dying. But as I considered making a run for it, the smallest of the silver wolves stepped in my way, blocking me from even thinking about making a run for it.
Slowly, I turned back around to face the massive black wolf that was now standing directly in front of me, as I swallowed hard, thinking that I should have made a run for it when I had the chance to.
