Chapter 113-2
Just as I got to my feet, and began to turn back towards the ranch, Mazie’s voice out of nowhere echoed into my head, as she yelled at me, “We are under attack at the school
My wolf froze in his step as he knew this wasn’t something that we could just keep to ourselves, because so many young innocent lives were in danger. Turning back, I gave Chance an apologetic look before I mind linked him, “I’m sorry brother, to ruin your moment too, but the school is under attack.”
Chance didn’t even hesitate to get up, as he said to me, “Get Raven back to the ranch, and make sure she is safe. This could very well be a trap to get her alone and away from us.”
I wanted to argue with him that I needed to be the one that went, so that I could make things right between myself and Mazie. But before I even knew what was happening, Chance took off at what looked like the speed of light towards the school, leaving me standing there in my wolf form in front of Raven, who looked at a loss at what had just happened.
Knowing that it might not be safe out here, even though I knew my father was running the perimeter, I moved to Raven’s side, nudging her to get up, in the hopes that she would understand what I wanted her to do. As Raven moved to stand, I moved toward the horses, hoping she would understand that it was time to go.
But as Raven got completely to her feet, the sound of a howl carried in our direction, and I knew that it was a warning how! that rogues were in the area. Knowing that the horses couldn’t outrun a rogue wolf, I moved to Raven’s side, lowering myself to the ground, knowing that I was her best chance to get her back to the ranch and to safety.
Unfortunately, Raven wasn’t having any part of what I was asking of her, as she took a step back, while she said to me, “Wait, you want me to ride on your back? I just learned how to ride a horse, and I am actually horrible at it. I could only imagine how bad I would be without a saddle on your back. I’m sorry, but that’s a no–go for me.”
Another howl rang out, but this time it was closer than the last one, telling me that these rogues were on- the move, and I didn’t have time to be arguing with Raven. Knowing by the look in her eyes that I wasn’t getting her on my back, I urged her to get onto my horse, praying that Moonshine would be fast enough to get her back home.
T
Of course, I planned on escorting her back, and I had raced Moonshine on multiple occasions and knew that he was fast, but this was a bit different, as he would have Raven on his back, and needed to be extremely careful with her.
Thankfully, Raven got the memo loud and clear with the last howl, and I think maybe it was because she had seen the fear in my eyes that she wasn’t safe out here. Either way, her butt was now mounting my horse, and all I could pray for at this moment was that we got the hell out of here, before these rogues caught us out here alone.
I was beginning to think that maybe Chance was right, and this was indeed a trap. Unfortunately by the looks of things, we might have given the rogues exactly what they wanted by leaving her only protected by are of us, as they drew us apart, attacking our peers from miles away, knowing that we would come to their rescue
With Raven now sitting safely on the saddle, I moved in front of Moonshine, tempting him to follow me
Thankfully, Moonshine loved a good challenge and began to follow me down the side of the mountain at a steady, fast but safe pace, as I continued to look back over my shoulder, making sure that Raven was
okay.
When we reached the foot of the mountain, I gave out a sigh of relief, thinking that the worst was over, because it was pretty much a straight shot back to the ranch from here, but that relief was short–lived when another howl rang out, and this time it sounded like it came from right behind us.
Raven’s eyes widened in fear, as if she knew this wasn’t good, and I couldn’t help but think that we weren’t going to make it back to the ranch before the rogues caught up to us. I really wished that she would have just trusted me, because I would have her almost back to the ranch by now and to safety.
Knowing that we needed to put the petal to the metal, I gave Raven a look, hoping she understood to hold on, before I gave Moonshine it was a go. Moonshine took off like a bat out of hell, letting it rip, as if he understood the severity of the situation. He was definitely earning himself one hell of a treat for tonight from me, especially if he got my mate back to the ranch safely.
Thankfully, Raven was riding Moonshine like a full–blown cowgirl, surprising the hell out of me, while giving me the hope that we might just make it back to the ranch before the rogues catch up to us. But just when I thought that, I looked behind me, as another howl rang out, making me realize that we had company.
A half–dozen rogues appeared, racing towards us, from the same exact path that we had just taken, making me wonder if they had been watching us from a far, waiting for Chance to leave Raven in my sole care. It was as if this was a strategic attack, knowing exactly where Raven was.
But they might have won at getting me alone with Raven, thinking that they had a better shot with just one Ryder Alpha brother to protect her, but what they didn’t know was I wasn’t willing to give up so easily.
