But as I left the house and went to walk past Cash, he reached out and snatched my keys right from my hand. I should have known that he would never let me go alone, as his words from earlier about protecting me because I was his mate, echoed in the back of my mind.

At this point, I clearly was okay with the whole protection thing, especially since he was a wolf and the school was being attacked by these rogue wolves. In a way, this was exactly what I wanted, as I had hoped to get the wolves of this region on my side to fight the rogue wolves, but little did I know that I had them already on my side.

Not putting up a fight, I got into the passenger seat of my car, allowing Cash to drive. In all honesty, I hadn’t even realized that my hands were shaking until I went to put on my seatbelt After everything that I had learned today, it didn’t surprise me that I was a bottle of nerves, but right now, I knew I needed to pull it together because my friends needed me.

Thankfully, Cash took off down the lane, not holding back, racing towards the school, knowing that we needed to get there to help. Honestly, I still had no idea what I was going to do to help, but I had Cash with me which was another good wolf verses the bad ones.

At first, I remained silent during the drive, staring out the window, but my mind was going a mile a minute, and I had so many damn questions I needed and wanted answers to. Seriously, right now seemed like a good time to ask some of them, because I had no clue what the hell we were about to come upon at the school.

Turning to look at Cash, I ask him, “I don’t understand what is going on here. Why are these rogue wolves attacking? What do they want?”

Cash’s eyes remained on the road, as he remained silent, and I half wondered if he had been lost in thought and hadn’t heard my question. But then I watched him bite his bottom lip, and I realized that he was thinking about how he was going to explain it to me.

Releasing his lip from between his teeth, I watched as he took a deep breath, before he steered the car onto the main road, almost on two wheels just like Chase had done driving me to school on my first day here. But today, I didn’t care about the reckless driving, as people’s lives were clearly in danger.

Once we were on the main road, heading into town, Cash licks his lips, before he says to me. “I believe they are here because of us.”

“What do you mean because of us? Is it because I came here to live? Is this all fault?” I asked him, now worried that my grandmother’s death was on my hands, along with Josie’s and God knows who else.

Once again Cash remained silent, and his silence unfortunately was telling me that it alw because of me, making me realize now that there had to be a reason why my mone never returned here. With her death, and my arrival, it had obviously drawn the rogewie back here, but what I couldn’t understand was why I was being held accountable for whate happened all those years ago with her. Her death should have been the end to where they had with her, but it was clear that that beef had passed onto me.

Taking a deep breath, Cash breaks his silence as he confesses to me, “There is so much th you need to learn about us, and your family’s history, it is not exactly your fault that this s happening but all our ancestors before us have caused this, not only yours but mine too Unfortunately, I don’t have all the answers that you seek, as I too am just learning about th actually happened here all those years ago with your mother, my father, and my uncle. But what I do know is that the Rogue Alpha King and his heirs are somehow involved, and that isn’t good news for any of us.”
