“What is that?” Chance asks as he moves to my side, staring up at where my flashlight was directly
pointed at.
We both remained silent, as we stared at the carvings, before Chance reached above his head, wiping away what seemed like decades of old dust and cobwebs. With the debris removed, the carvings were as clear as the day they were probably carved, and I couldn’t help but let out a gasp as I realized what one of the carvings was of.
I had seen this symbol before, but I couldn’t remember exactly where I had seen it/Chance, on the other hand, recognized this symbol right away, as he says to me, “This symbol has something to do with your family. It’s on the headstone of your ancestor’s grave in the graveyard too.”
“I have seen this symbol before myself, but I can’t remember where.” I admitted to him, as I realized that he was right about it being connected to my family, but I still didn’t see how it was connected to the werewolves, except that I knew full moons had an effect on werewolves, or at least they did in the movies.
With this find, I was now wondering if there wasn’t truth to what Chance was saying, because if this was on my so–called ancestor’s grave, and I had seen it before, then somehow, I must be connected to his world. But even if this was so, that didn’t mean that I was a wolf like him.
I know that he was hoping by showing me this room, that it would prove to me that I was like him, but unfortunately, the only thing it did was confuse me even more than I already was, because I now was wondering what side my family was on.
I mean, who the hell has a torture chamber under their damn bedroom floor? This wasn’t normal by no means and made me begin to question my family’s overall mental health. But that wasn’t the only thing it had me questioning, as I now wondered exactly what happened all those years ago
between my mother and Evan.
A cold chill at that moment ran down the spine of my back, making me realize that I was done
hanging in my family’s secret room of torture, as this place creeped the hell out of me. Moving
towards the ladder, I climbed back up into my grandmother’s bedroom, taking a seat on her bed.
as I waited for Chance to seal the room beneath her floor back up.
Honestly, I never cared if I stepped foot in that room again, and I wish there was a way to seal it off
for good, because the thought of anyone using it to hurt someone sickened me.
As Chance pulls the rug back over the hidden doorway, he says to me, “I think it’s best if we keep this room a secret between us. I don’t know how the others would respond to seeing it.”

+25 Pointe At first, I had to wonder who he meant by the others, but then I realized he was talking about Mazle and Chase, as the two of them would probably think the worst, especially Chase. Mazie, on the other hand, would probably lose her mind, thinking about someone being tortured down there, just like I was doing right now.
As for Chase, I could only imagine that it would give him another reason to hate me and want to be with Jessica. After everything that I had learned today, I honestly couldn’t blame him for choosing
her over me.
Even though I think she is somehow connected to these rogues trying to kill me, she was the better choice for him, just like he said she was. Actually, she was the better choice for all three of them, as my family was clearly more messed up than I ever could have imagined them to be.
1 Honestly, whether I was one of them or not, it was clear that my family had tortured their kind, and that wasn’t okay, by no means. My stomach actually turned into a tight knot at that moment, just thinking about it, as I felt like I was going to lose what little was in my stomach from this morning.
“Raven, you don’t look so good.” Chance says to me as he gets to his feet, and begins to move towards the bed, as he reaches his hand out to my forehead, but I flinched away from him, not wanting him to touch me, because right now I felt dirty from what my ancestors obviously did to
his people.
It was crazy to think moments ago I was the one fearing his kind, as it seemed like they were hunting me down to kill me, when in reality, my family looked to be the ones that had been a threat to them. Hell, for all I know, this could be their revenge for something that my mother or my grandmother had done to them, but unfortunately, neither of them are here to even question them
about it.
“I’m sorry.” I told Chance, seeing the hurt in his eyes, knowing that he was only trying to comfort me, but right now I just needed some space as I took all this in.
Getting to my feet, I moved towards the small window in the far corner of the bedroom, before I peered outside at the moon that was now appearing in the evening sky, wondering where on earth I fit into all of this. The thought of being one of them, I had to admit, was thrilling and exciting,
especially with the thought of knowing I wasn’t alone in this world, but after what I had just seen
beneath my feet, I was now doubting it.
Looking away from the moon, I turned back to look at Chance who was just standing in the middle of the room silently staring at me, as if waiting for me to come around. But after everything I had
just learned, it was going to take me a while to process it all and figure out where in all of this I
belonged. That’s if I even did. I was beyond confused, and I honestly had so many different
scenarios running through my head that my head was beginning to spin out of control.

+25 Pomite I was just about to tell him that I thought it would be best if I stayed here at the house and figured things out, when I heard the front door to my grandmother’s house open, catching both of us off guard, as Chance placed himself between the door and me.
