Chapter 16-1
Raven’s POV
All my self-preservation at that moment went out the window, as I savored his taste upon my lips. The kiss at first was soft and gentle, as he was testing the waters to see how I would react, but once my own lips began to move against his own, the kiss became so much more thar, what I had told myself I was going to allow.
It wasn’t even the kiss that was overstepping the boundaries that I had set for myself, but the connection ! was feeling to him through it, as the mental walls I had put up began to crumble, aftowing him to enter. With each second passing of his lips on mine, and both his hands now cupping my face, I couldn’t help but want to savor more, as I took control, pushing him back, while I crawled onto his tap, wrapping my arms around his neck, all while our lips remained intact.
This wasn’t my first kiss by no means, but nothing before it remotely compared to it, as there was something else present between us, fueling a flame of desire inside of me, something I thought would never be possible for me after the accident. It was also a fear of mine, to allow myself to feel for someone again, only for them to be ripped away from me in death, just like my parents were, but even though it was a fear of mine, my heart still craved for a connection with someone.
As I felt his arms wrap around me, pulling me close to his chest, my mind took back control, making me
pull away from the kiss, knowing that I had to stop this, before I allowed him completely into my heart.
Deprived of oxygen from the kiss, my chest heaved, taking in the night’s fresh air, as I stared into Chance’s eyes, trying to will myself to move. But his arms remained around me, holding me in place on his lap, as he wasn’t so willing to just let me go too.
Knowing if I sat here in his lap a moment longer, I would give back into the temptation, especially seeing the desire in his eyes for me, making me realize that I had to say something to stop this from going any
further.
“It’s getting late. I really should be getting home.” I told him breathlessly, as I continued to breathe heavily,
୮ trying to compose myself, and stop my own urges.
My breath hitched, as my eyes focused on Chance slowly licking his lips, while he savored the remembrance of my lips on his, adding fuel to the fire that was burning inside of me for him. My heart now raced in my chest, as my eyes remained glued to his lips, while I thought about giving into the temptation of tasting them once again.
But just as I was losing my internal battle, Chance’s hold loosened around me, and to my surprise he says to me, “You’re right. It is getting late, and I should get you home.” Before he startled me, by jumping off the

When my feet finally hit the ground, cleared my throat, taking a step back from him, trying to put space between us, as my mind reminded me that it was just to be a kiss. But obviously it went slightly further than I was going to allow it too, as my heart began to ache at the short distanse I had put between us.
Looking away from him, not able to now look him in the eyes, because I didn’t want him to see how the distance was affecting me, I said to him, “We had better get going” Before I moved to the passenger door, getting inside, as he grabbed the blanket, and shut the tailgate.
