My eyes moved backup to look at her, wondering what the hell she was doing, because one thing I did know about Lexi, was that she was as crazy as they came. With the battery compartment hanging wide open, Lexi gives me a damn smirk, before she presses the button on the taser. No way in hell should the taser have worked, as it had no source to power it, but to my surprise it lit up, sending sparks of electricit into the air.

“Witch.” Came from Chance’s lips, before I felt his arm wrap around me, pulling me behind him, all while I stood there in complete and utter shock.

There was no way in hell this was happening. How could my best friend, for most of my life, been secretly a witch, and why had she been entrusted with my life? I now felt like my life had been built off nothing but lies, and I honestly had no clue if anything I grew up knowing was real.

Lexi’s eyes moved from mine to look at Chance before a smile formed once again on her face. “I am surprised it took you this long to figure it out, Alpha, but then, of course, you have had your hands full.” Lex said to him, before she leans to the side trying to peer past him to see how I was reacting to the news, an to be honest, how was I supposed to react.

Honestly, right now, I am so numb that I don’t think there could possibly be anything that would surprise me. Hell, you could probably tell me that the tooth fairy was real, and I would believe it, because if this world was full of werewolves and witches, there were no endless possibilities of what was now real.

“Who entrusted you with Raven’s life?” Chance now asks Lexi, as he stepped towards her demanding answers, which I knew was the wrong thing for him to do, because the one thing I did know about Lexi to be true was, she didn’t take too keenly to threats.

I didn’t even have to look at Lexi to know that Chance was rubbing her the wrong way by his tone of voice, even though I was wanting to know the answer to the question he had just asked. Knowing that I needed to de–escalate the negative energy in the room between these two, I grabbed a hold of Chance’s hand, pulling him back towards me, before placing myself directly between the two of them.

Giving Chance a look, hoping that the look I gave him was enough for him to cool it, I turned back to look at Lexi, who was now standing there patiently. Honestly, I was shocked at how laid back she was with him, but then again, she was on his territory, with a pack of wolves to back him. But I knew Lexi ali too well, and that wasn’t enough to stop her, making me wonder what really was going on here.

Crossing my arms over my chest, I stood my ground between the two of them, now wanting answers. After everything that I had been through these past two months, I would hope and pray that Lexi, of all people, would be up front and honest with me, especially now that the cat was out of the bag with what she was.

Shaking her head, Lexi admits to me, “Honestly, my parents, nor do I know the name of who hired us to ensure your safety, but after the accident, we were told that our job was done.”

A gasp came from my lips, as tears began to instantly form in my eyes from the hurt. I was feeling in my heart right now. I was nothing but a job for Lexi and her family, and everything that I had thought was kindness that I had received from her was nothing but a paid job being done on her behalf,

At this point in time, I wanted to throw my hands up in the air and completely give up, as not one single person in this room had been honest with me. Mazie and Chance had kept their world from me, and Lexi had lied to me for years, not only about who she was, but about being my friend too.

Honestly, I had no clue anymore who I could trust, other than I knew that Chance and his brothers would never do anything to hurt me. Right now, that seemed to be my only safe haven that I had, but then Jacob walks into my grandmother’s bedroom, looking even more lost than me, making me realize just maybe I did have one real friendship in my life, not built off lies.
