Chase’s POV

Goddess, the tension I was feeling being this close to her and knowing that she didn’t get on the first plane back to California after finding out what we truly were, was demolishing what selfpreservation I had left in me. Just knowing that she wasn’t all freaked out and wasn’t looking at me like I was a monster with two heads, made me realize that even though she wasn’t raised in our world, it didn’t mean she didn’t belong in it.

For her to stand her ground against me like she was doing right now, knowing that I could wolf out on her at any moment, also spoke volume, as I was realizing that she wasn’t the slightest bit intimidated by me. I also realized that even though Raven’s wolf laid dormant inside of her, she was more of a wolf than Jessica ever could be, as she definitely had the heart of an Alpha.

But now that I knew the truth of her heritage, I also had to question which side her loyalty would lie on once she found out the truth that she wasn’t an orphan, per se. Her grandfather was very much alive, and I honestly don’t know what she is going to do when he comes for her, which I now know that he will.

Unfortunately for all of us right now, there is a target on her head, one that isn’t going to be so easy to destroy, as the rogues are at war with each other over who is to become the heir to the Rogue King’s throne. Honestly, I wish I could share with Raven all the information that I had acquired this evening, but unfortunately, I knew that it was way over her head, and that it would be far too much for her to handle at this time.

As for my family, we were more involved in this whole thing, more than we ever could have possibly imagined, and even if Raven left here and went back to California, the threat against our territory would never end. I now knew that the answer wasn’t to forsake Raven, but I knew that I had caused damage to our relationship, but right now, staring into her eyes, I wanted to believe that Raven hadn’t lost all faith in me.

For the first time since she had arrived, I was looking at her in a different light, one that held no preservation, nor did it hold resentment towards her. Instead, I was staring at her with not only a pair of newly opened eyes, but also with my heart now not under lock and key to her.

But when she tells me that she thinks I am involved with trying to run her out of town, I have to admit that it breaks my heart, knowing how much I must have hurt her for her to think so little of me. Of course, I immediately went on the defense with her, but once again she came back with another sly remark, breaking me into a million little pieces, as I realized how much damage I truly had done to our bond.

Honestly, I had no clue if our bond was even repairable, but if it was, I knew that I had to try. not just for my sake, but for her sake too. There was no doubt that this must be now weighing heavy on her heart, as I can clearly hear the pain in her voice, and see the hurt that was completely filling her eyes right now. I wanted nothing more than to take all the pain that I had caused her away, as her pain was now becoming my own, now that the barriers I had put up, were now down.

Unable to hold back my emotions a second longer, I reached for Raven, grabbing her by her hand as she walked away from me, spinning her body back around and right into my arms, just where I wanted her to be, but her head was buried in my chest. Reaching for her chin, I raised her head so that I could look into those beautiful dark orbs of hers, but when I stared into them, I could clearly see the pain she was feeling, and I knew that I had been the one to put it there.
