Moon Phased: The Triple Claim novel Chapter 26

Chapter 17-1

Raven’s POV

“Raven, your ride is here.” My grandmother called out to me, making me take a final look in the mirror at my job of covering up the dark circles around my eyes, before I grabbed my backpack and headed out to the living room.

Last night, I barely got an ounce of sleep, as I couldn’t put Chance out of my mind, and I only found solace when I finally put on his tee shirt, taking in his scent. I had a few boyfriends in my lifetime, and none of them affected me the way he does, making me wonder if maybe this was the real thing with him. Regardless, if it was or if it wasn’t, I realized last night that there was no way in hell that I was going to be able to say no to what he was offering.

It was clear that my heart was already involved, and it ached last night just being away from him, while my mind finally came on board with the idea of seeing where this would take us. I still had my plans to return to California after I graduated to attend college, but just like his grandmother had said, all roads lead back to Beaumont. After last night, and seeing the beautiful scenery here, I could see myself happy here, especially if it was with Chance.

He was right when he said that my parents were no longer in California, and I realized that now it wasn’t California that I so desperately yearned to be at, but that it was the thought of being close to where I felt loved and connected to the memories of them. But Beaumont had been my mother’s home too, and I was starting to feel a different kind of connection here, especially hearing Chance’s grandmother speaking of my mother.

As I stepped out of my bedroom and headed to the living room, my grandmother was in her recliner,

rocking away with a huge smile on her face, just like the smile she had on her face yesterday. It didn’t take

long for me to realize why she was smiling once again, as I spotted Chance standing inside the front door.

My heart skipped a beat at the mere sight of him, as shock filled me that he had come to take me to school, because I was expecting to see Mazie, but I wasn’t upset to see him. If anything, I was elated that he was here, so that the two of us could talk before school started, and I could get this off my chest before I talked myself out of it, which I had a history of doing, as I was always one to overthink things.

“I hope you don’t mind, but I told Mazie that I would take you to school today.” Chance said with the look of hope in his eyes, that I wasn’t going to deny his offer of giving me a ride this time.

“No, I don’t mind. I actually wanted to talk to you this morning.” I confessed to him, making a smile instantly form on his face, before he turned to my grandmother, saying to her, “It was nice to see you, Ms.

Wilson.”

“You too, Chance.” She says as her face beams with joy, while her eyes move to me, and I know what she is thinking, and I just pray that she doesn’t say anything that will embarrass me right now.

I’ll catch you later.” Is all I said to her, as I rushed towards Chance, pushing him out the door, praying to

God we made it out of the house before she said something about his father and my mother.

As we walked down the steps off the porch, Chance grabbed ahold of the rail, shaking it, before saying.” This house could really use a little TLC

I let out a huff as I stepped off the porch, turning to look at the house, realizing that he was the second brother to say something about it, and a part of me was embarrassed to call it home. Feeling like I needed to say something, I say to him, “Unfortunately, I think it may need more than that. I honestly don’t know how she let things get this bad. I mean, I know money has always been fight for her, but it doesn’t look like she has made any improvements on it, since the day she bought it.”
