Yes, the three of them might be protective and domineering of me, but if I was being honest, I needed that in my life, especially with the rogues coming for me. It now had me wondering if Lexi thought that she could take me back to California and that this would all go away on its own, but I had news for her, this war that was happening here, was going to continue to the next generation if I ran from it, just like it had from my mother.

A series of growls now rippled from the hallway into my grandmother’s bedroom, as I continued to hold on tightly to the sheets, trying not to scream out in pain, knowing that I would just make the situation worse by calling out to my mates. I wanted nothing more in this world for them to take away my pain, but Lexi was right about one thing.

I wasn’t of age quite yet, and I knew that this meant a lot to Chance and until my birthday came, I would humor her with whatever she was about to do to me, to mute the fire inside of me. I had two days until my official birthday, and in those two days, I wanted answers to all the questions I had running through my head, but not only did I want answers, I wanted someone to explain to me how the hell I supposedly belonged to their world.

Unfortunately, I knew that the next two days would be spent without any of my socalled mates, leaving the burden on Mazie’s shoulders to explain it all to me. But first, I needed to get this heat of mine under control, as another wave of lust and desire began to flow through me, just from the mere sound of my matesgrowls, calling out to me.

Jacob, my bag!Lexi calls out, with what sounded like worry in her tone, as I heard chaos erupting outside in the hallway.

As soon as Jacob enters the room, Lexi slams the bedroom door shut with the flick of her wrist, while she begins to chant something under her breath. Once again, I found myself questioning if I could trust her, especially now assuming that she was putting some kind of spell on the door, not allowing anyone else entrance into the room.

Never in my life did I think that I would have to question Lexi’s friendship and her true intentions with me, but now finding out that she had been paid to be my friend, it put doubt in my mind about whether we were truly ever friends. Thankfully, there was at least one person in the room that I knew I could trust, and after everything that had happened tonight, I knew I could count on him, even if he didn’t fully think things through.

With the door now shut, the fire once again inside of me stoked, and I couldn’t help this time to let out the scream I had been holding, as the pain became too grave for me to bear all at once. Something about the door to the room being sealed off was causing me to feel isolated and trapped, and I tried to move from the bed, to open the door to my mates, but! found myself now too weak to even move from the bed.

It was at that moment that I felt like I was beginning to have one of my panic attacks on top of whatever this damn heat was, and the combination together was bound to lead me straight to my death. As I tried to refill my lungs with fresh oxygen, the air from the room seemed to be thinning, to the point I was beginning to have trouble catching my next breath.

Lexi must have noticed my labor breathing, because she quickly opened the bag that she had Jacob retrieve for her, before she pulled out a small red satin bag. Unzipping the small bag, Lexi dumps its contents of small vials right on the mattress beside me, as she quickly rummages through them as if she knew what she was looking for.
