“Of course, they don’t want you together, but everything that they have done thus far doesn’t seem to have worked. So, instead of driving you a part, it seems as if they decided to draw you all together, in a haze of fury for your mate, driving each of you mad and pinning you against each other to be the first to claim her.”

Lexi was right, because that was exactly what Raven’s heat had done, as the haze that had taken over me wasn’t allowing me to think clearly for myself. My desire to be the first to claim Raven was the only thing I could think of, and I was stupidly willing to hurt my brothers if that meant that I would be.

I turned to look at Chase, who was already staring at me, as we were both clearly thinking the same thing. There was no apology that needed to be spoken between us, because we now know the reason for our actions.

Now knowing why Raven’s heat had come on so soon, I needed to know how long Lexi would be able to hold it off, because with everything we had going on here, there was no way in hell that my brothers, or I were going to be able to stay away from her.

Turning my attention back to Lexi, who now had her head tilted back and her eyes closed like she was resting, I asked her, “The potion you gave Raven, how long will it keep her heat at bay?”

Lexi’s hand moved to the bridge of her nose, giving it a slight squeeze, before she opened her eyes to look at me. I had been clearly right about Lexi being worn out, and it had just occurred to me that it wasn’t exactly what had just happened here in the house that had her so worn out, but that it must be from fighting today beside Mazie against the rogues at the

school.

Now knowing that it wasn’t batteries that had powered the taser that was in her hand, I knew that it must have taken a grave amount of energy and strength from her to keep it up at the pace she was going. Lexi clearly had a stake in our win today at the school against the rogues, and she had helped save many of our pack members‘ lives, and for that alone I was grateful to her.

Unfortunately, I didn’t know who was paying her, and honestly, I didn’t know if I could fully trust her, as she was taking orders from a source none of us knew, not even herself by the sounds of it. But even though she was clearly being paid for her services, it was clear that she cared about Raven, and I wanted to believe that she would put whatever friendship she had formed with Raven over the years above the paycheck that she receives.

“Normally, the elixir I gave Raven would last for a couple of days, but unfortunately, we are

not working with a normal self–induced heat. I have no clue what was used just yet to bring it

but once I discover how it was brought forward, then maybe I might be able to reverse it, and stop her heat for good. But for tonight, I need to rest, and so do all of you, because ! don’t know what tomorrow will bring.”

“What do you mean by what tomorrow will bring?” Chase asks her, and Lexi’s eyes move from mine to Chase’s before she says to him, “What I mean is that whoever is behind bringing her heat on will assume that it worked, and they will send another wave of rogues our way. They will think that their plan of distraction has the three of you pinned against one another.”

Under different circumstances, and if Lexi wasn’t a witch, I could have seen the two of us as friends, as the girl had an amazing head on her shoulders. It was clear that she was trained well in the art of war, as she knew precisely what their next move would be. But I also had to wonder if she hadn’t got orders before she had come here, because she did have her little bag of potions already with her, leading me to rethink the part about trusting her.
