Chapter 136-2

Even with me working directly by his side, preparing for the roguesnext attack on our territory, my father’s lips remained sealed about the fate that he and his brother had suffered. But they weren’t the only ones that had suffered all those years ago, and I had a funny feeling that there was one person left in our household that I may be able to convince to speak about it.

Finishing up securing the borders to the south, I rushed back to the ranch, hoping to find my grandmother alone, as I knew that she would not speak a word if my father was present. All these years I had secretly questioned what happened to her other mate, but not once was his death spoken about, by her or my father.

At certain times, I could see sadness in her eyes, and I knew that sadness was from their loss, but she would never speak of it, but retreat to her room, bearing the pain of their loss alone. But today, I was hoping to break that silence with her, and convince her to finally speak, so that she no longer had to bear the burden alone of their loss, morning in silence.

Thankfully, the Moon Goddess was on my side today, because as I raced towards the ranch, it was clear that no one had made it back just yet, leaving me time to hopefully talk to my grandmother and convince her to confide in me. Shifting back to my human form, I threw on a pair of gym shorts before I headed into the house, knowing exactly where to find my grandmother, as the scent of cinnamon filled my sense of smell.

Making my way to the kitchen, I could hear my grandmother singing her favorite tune, as she stood at the island, rolling out what looked like homemade cinnamon rolls. My mouth instantly began to water, as my eyes spotted a fresh pan cooling on the stove, but I knew better than anyone in this house that I would get my hand slapped if I tried to have my dessert before dinner.

Knowing this, I moved to the refrigerator, grabbing a coldwater bottle, before making my way to the island to take a seat directly across from her, while I said, It smells amazing in here,

A soft smile formed on her face as she continued to roll the dough, while she said back to me, My Edgar loved these. He could eat a whole pan himself if I would allow him to.

Her eyes then looked up from the dough towards me, before she continued to say, I believe that is where you got your sweet tooth from.”

Her smile brightens at that moment, and I don’t know if this smile is meant for me, or for the memory of my grandfather she just had. Either way, I loved seeing my grandmother smile, as she had suffered far too much loss and pain, for all those of her bloodlines before her were

gone.

I hated myself for what I was about to do, as I knew that the smile that I had just inspired was sure to falter, but I knew this was my opening to get answers. With that thought, I went for it by asking my grandmother, Did his brother have a sweet tooth too?

My grandmother let out what sounded like a nervous chuckle, before she turned her back to me, and under her breath I could have sworn I heard her faintly say, There was nothing sweet when it came to Edwin.Making me question why she would say such a thing, and what she truly meant by it.

Instead of fully questioning her on what I thought I heard her say, I just said, What?to her, hoping that she would turn back around and elaborate on what she had just said.

Wiping her hands on her apron, she turned back around, giving me a quick half smile, before she went back to work on making the cinnamon rolls, while she said to me, You know we don’t speak of our dead.
