You’re awake.Mazie says to me, as I bat my eyes slowly open, bringing my hands to my head because it felt like it was going to explode.

Why do I feel like I was hit by a freight train?I ask her while I try to push myself up into a sitting position but find myself extremely weak. It was clear that whatever the hell had taken over me, it had taken a lot of strength out of me.

Noticing my weakness, Mazie moves to help me sit up, while she says to me, That, my friend, is called your heat. All the she wolves get them once they find their mate, or in your

case, mates.

I stared blankly at Mazie, as I processed what she had just said. Was she really claiming that I had gotten my first werewolf period? I mean that is what a heat is to a canine, right?

If this was true, then that would support Chance’s claim that I was one of them, but on the other hand, it could have very well just been a flu bug that hit me at the most ironic of times. But as I remember back to how it had me feeling, I had never experienced anything like it before in my life. The pain was clearly unbearable without having one of them next to me, leading me to wonder if maybe it could possibly be.

Mazie fixed the blanket over my bottom half, before she continued to say to me, I know this all must be a lot for you to process in such a short period of time. Trust me, I wanted to tell you sooner, and I hated keeping what we were from you, but please understand that we were worried about your mental health, especially after the loss you had suffered.

Honestly, I was upset that they had kept secrets from me, but now hearing Mazie’s excuse that sounded more like an apology, I couldn’t help but understand now why they had kept it from me. When I first arrived here, I was barely holding onto my sanity and found myself questioning if I should have left the mental facility.

The smallest of things when I was around them would set me off, and I knew even though I tried my best to hide it from them, they had seen it. Looking back, I can now see that they were just trying to protect me, but unfortunately, by doing so, it had also put a damper on all the friendships that we were building, along with putting me directly in harm’s way, since I didn’t know exactly what was after me. But all of this was now in the past, and now that we were all being honest with one another, it was time that we all started working together, whether I was one of them or not, I was very much a part of what was happening around here.

“Listen, I am not one hundred percent sold that I am one of you, but now that we are being honest, it would be nice if you could fully disclose everything to me that you have been keeping from me. My life is clearly on the line here, and I think that it’s only fair that I know exactly what I am up against.I said, pleading with Mazie, hoping that now that the cat was out of the bag, she would feel more reluctant to speak to me.

Mazie stepped back from the bed, nodding her head, as she said to me, You’re right. You deserve to know everything, but unfortunately, I only know so much. You’re not the only one that has secrets being kept from them, as the elders of our pack seemed to have made a pack not to speak about what happened all those years ago when your mother was here.

I knew that Mazie was telling the truth, as I had come across the elders of this town not speaking about it during my own investigation, but I was sure that she knew more than I did.
