Lexi at that moment let out a cough, as if she was choking on her own saliva, and I knew that she must have more talents than she was letting onto, especially when she looks at me, and says, “I am sure that can be arranged.”

“What can be arranged?” Mazie asked with a confused look on her face, and I was quick to blurt out, “Nothing.” As my eyes remained on Lexi, while I thought, “Get the hell out of my

head.”

A smirk forms on Lexi’s face as she steps into my grandmother’s bedroom, as she says to me, “Sorry no can do. This isn’t something that I can just shut off.”

I let out a growl, annoyed thinking back on all the years that she had been spying on me and wondering what secrets of mine that she knew. Not only had she been hired to pretend to be my friend, but she had invaded my most private thoughts.

It had me thinking back to ninth grade when Carrie Thomas told everyone in the school that I sucked face with her older brother. I racked my brain forever wondering how the hell she knew this, because her brother and I swore not to tell a soul. Turns out I think I finally know how she had found out.

Lexi let out a chuckle as she shook her head at me, while she moved to my bedside before she whispered, “Do you really think I would stoop that low? Her brother was the one that was more than willing to tell all his friends that he had seven minutes in heaven with you. Plus, I already cleaned that mess up once for you, I’d rather not revisit it.”

It didn’t take me long to realize what she meant when she said about cleaning it up, as I remember him coming to school with two black and blue eyes a few days later. Plus, there was the fact that he wouldn’t even look at me after that. This whole time, I had assumed that it was because he didn’t want everyone to know that he had kissed me since I was an underclassman, but it turns out that Lexi had threatened him.

Jacob brought his hands together, before he said, “I am sensing a tiny bit of hostility between you two. Do I need to remind you both of the pack that we had made?”

“That pack doesn’t count when the person making the oath isn’t telling the truth about who she is.” I said coldly to him, as my eyes remained narrowed while I stared at Lexi, before I added, “Hell, is her real name even Lexi?”

The tips of Lexi’s fingers began to spark, and I could see that I had struck a nerve with her. but for some strange reason I didn’t fear her. Maybe it’s because I knew that she was being paid to protect me and keep me safe as she watched over me, or maybe it’s because I knew

But then Lexi goes and does something that surprises me, as she hits me with a jolt of her electricity. It wasn’t enough to make my teeth chatter. Hell, it wasn’t even enough to say that it hurt, but instead, it tickled just enough to let me know that she wasn’t playing with me, before she stood from the bed, taking a step back.

Mazie was at my side before I knew it, as a protective growl rumbled from her chest, before she placed herself between Lexi and me. “I, myself, took an oath, and that was to protect my

Luna at all costs.”

Once again, sparks flowed from the tips of Lexi’s fingers, as she says back to Mazie, “I too took an oath, and I plan on keeping it.”

“Please, can we not fight?” Jacob said, standing abruptly from the bed, now placing himself in the direct line of fire between Lexi and Mazie, as if he didn’t fear either of them, even though Lexi had just shown her true colors to me.

Honestly, I don’t know if it was Lexi’s little spark of electricity that she hit me with just moments ago or if it was the fact that I had enough, but at that moment, I somehow was able to flip the covers off my legs and stand from the bed. Without a second thought, I moved to Jacob’s side, as I looked between Lexi and Mazie, knowing, by the looks of it, neither of them was going to budge.

At this point in time, I was thinking of just letting the two of them go at it, since they had both betrayed me in a way, but then I couldn’t allow that to happen, because even though they had betrayed me, I hated to admit it, I still cared about them.

“Jacob is right, that’s enough. Besides, my birthday is tomorrow, and all of this will come to a head of whether I am a werewolf or not.” I said as I looked between the two of them, but they were both quick to shake their heads.

Mazie was the first to say, “Actually, your wolf may be dormant within you and might never awaken.”

I was just about to question Mazie further about what she had said, when Lexi interrupted by saying, “Her wolf will awaken, but it will take more than just her turning of age.”

I turned completely now to look at Lexi, as Mazie moved to my side, as we both stared at her. wondering what exactly she knew, because by the sounds of it, she knew more about what was going on here than what we did.
