Chapter 142-1

Raven’s POV

Honestly, at this point, if you would tell me the tooth fairy was real, I would believe you, because my mind was now beyond being able to comprehend what was real or not. Everything that I was led to believe were just bumps in the night, or crazy talk, I was now seeing were real with my own two eyes, truly making me question my sanity. But I wasn’t the only one witnessing this, as Mazie was here beside me, running from what was clearly chasing us.

Peering quickly over my shoulder, now scared that they were closing the distance between us, I tightened my grip on Mazie’s hand, fearing that we weren’t going to be able to outrun them. Unfortunately, their leg span was at least double mine, and for each stride that they took, I needed to take two, hell, maybe even three to stay ahead of them. But even running as fast as I was, I was finding it impossible to do this, and I knew that it was just going to be a matter of minutes, maybe even seconds, before they were on us.

Even with my heart beating heavily now in my chest, the sound Mazie had heard earlier of running water was now filling the surrounding air, and I knew by the sounds of it that we had to be coming upon a river. Honestly, I didn’t know if this was going to be a good thing or a bad thing, but in those damn horror movies that Lexi made me watch with her, I knew that in most cases the victims were normally able to escape by a river. I don’t know why, but this was giving me some hope and motivation to run faster, praying that this was the case for

Mazie and me.

But out of nowhere, Mazie comes to a complete halt, jerking me back a good one by the hand, just in the nick of time. My feet shuffle backwards, while rocks and debris fall from the cliff’s edge in front of me, as I tighten my grip on her hand, frightened that I might fall over the cliff’s edge. When I finally get my footing and know that I’m not going to fall over the edge, I lean slightly forward, peeking over the edge to see a massive drop straight into a roaring river at the bottom.

“Shit.” Comes from my lips, as I realized that I had almost plummeted to my death, but I quickly lost that thought, as Mazie grabbed ahold of me, tackling me and removing me completely from the cliff’s edge.

Before I knew what was happening, one of the creatures that were chasing after us leaped off the cliff’s edge, followed by another one, and then another, as Mazie and I lay on the ground by the edge, watching them leaping to what I assume was their death. But as I watched them hit the river below with a huge splash, I noticed them emerging to the surface, as the rapids carried them downstream.

Chapter 142-1

For a moment, I watched the creatures being carried away by the river, wondering why they had all leaped off the edge when they clearly could see Mazie and I were lying on the ground. But I quickly realized that these creatures weren’t chasing us but instead, running from something far worse, as a low predatorial growl now echoed through the forest in our

direction.

Mazie quickly got to her feet and looked towards the forest where the growl had come from to back over her shoulder towards the cliff where the creatures had just leaped from, before she said to me, “We are going to have to make a jump for it too.”

My eyes widened as I stared at her, wondering if she had lost her ever–loving mind, but as another low growl rumbled in our direction, this time shaking the earth beneath my feet, I realized that whatever was coming in our direction was not only the creatures that leaped for it, frightened but Mazie too. But even seeing the fear in Mazie’s eyes, I didn’t know if I had the courage to jump for it.
