Chapter 144-2
“Beaumont, as in the Carolinas?” He asks, making me nod my head yes, as I now had hope that he knew exactly where it was.
“Alpha Evan’s pack.” He then said more like a statement than a question, but I continued to nod my head to him, before I said to him, “I am assuming that you know Evan then.”
“I sure do.” Is all he said to me, before he began to walk past me with Mazie still in his arms, leaving me just standing there, wondering if this was a good thing or a bad thing that he knew him.
“Wait up.”
.” I called out to him, but he acted as if he didn’t even hear me.
Instead of stopping like I had asked him to, he just kept walking, taking three of my strides, to his one to catch up with him, making me wonder if he decided against helping me to get back home. But as we came upon a field at the end of the tree line, I realized where he had been taking us all this time.
Stopping at the edge of the field, I took in all the tents that were pitched, along with all the number of creatures that were now present, just like him. Among those creatures were also surprisingly humans, which was taking me off guard.
Honestly, it looked like they were gathered for some kind of private retreat out here in the middle of nowhere, but I had to wonder why on earth they would have humans among them when for all these years they had tried to keep themselves off the grid. But when the shock finally wore off, and I spotted the creature with Mazie in his arms moving towards a white tent with a red cross on it, I realized that something else was going on here.
With all eyes now completely on me, I made my way towards the tent, as I realized that I was the outsider here, and also that my kind wasn’t very well liked by them. Shockingly, the creatures all just stopped dead in their tracks, as they just stood there watching me, and I had to wonder if my presence alone was making them uncomfortable.
In all honesty, I didn’t want to be here, and if one of these creatures would so kindly point me in the right direction, I would gladly be on my way back to Beaumont. Unfortunately, though, it didn’t seem like any of them were going to be forthcoming to talk to me, as it was pretty much clear as I walked past them that they were all holding their breaths as if they were
worried.
There was no doubt in my mind by the look on their faces that they all thought I was going to attack them like the rogue wolf back there had done, but I was nothing like the rogues, and these creatures had nothing to fear from me. Unfortunately, they didn’t know that, and as

they lowered their heads as I walked past them, I realized that these creatures were not predators, but that they were just gentle giants.

When I made it to the white tent, I paused at its entrance, wondering if I should enter or wait outside, but as I stood there with all their eyes on me, and could tell that I was making them feel uncomfortable, I opted to head inside. As I stepped into the tent, I looked around at the makeshift hospital, surprised by the advancement of it, being a traveling hospital and all, but that wasn’t what surprised me the most.
Crazy as it may sound, I couldn’t believe that there were human doctors and nurses inside. All of this was a bit crazy to me, but it also gave me more hope that someone would help Mazie and me back to Beaumont.
My eyes spotted Mazie on one of the beds, as a man in a white coat began to take her vitals and, by the looks of things, everything seemed to be good with her. Knowing from what she had told me before, that she just needed time for her wolf to heal her, I knew that she would be okay in a matter of hours as long as she got the rest she needed.
But she wasn’t the only one that needed some rest, as my feet were beyond killing me after the hike through the forest, especially in my wet shoes. Finding a chair, I took a load off my feet, before I kicked off my shoes that were still damp from the river.
Feeling like I was now safe from the rogue that was on the cliff, I leaned my head back, closing my eyes, wanting to just breathe and relax, even if it was just for a second. But as I leaned my head back and closed my eyes, I heard the creature’s voice say, “I thought you needed to make a call?”
With my eyes still closed, I took a few deep breaths of relief, knowing that the creature was going to help me. Once I felt my body slightly relax, I opened my eyes and lowered my head back to its rightful position, thinking that the creature would be standing in front of me, but to my surprise no creature stood there, but instead, there was a male, roughly around my age. At first, I thought I was losing my damn mind again, as I looked around for the creature, but when I didn’t see the creature anywhere in sight, I turned back to the male in front of me holding what looked like an old school satellite phone out in front of him towards me.
I must have been staring at the phone far too long for the male’s liking, as he retracted the phone back to him, while he says to me, “I guess you don’t want to make that call after all.”
My eyes widened as I stared now at the male directly in front of me, realizing that the voice belonging to the creature I had spoken to in the woods, was the same voice coming from this male, making me realize that werewolves weren’t the only shifters in this world.
Honestly, I was beyond surprised by this one, far more than I was finding out that werewolves
