Chapter18-2
Chance had stood up for me last night) showing me that he cared about me, and now it was my turn to make my own stance against her, as I could now see myself dethroning her. It was clear that she and Chase were no longer the power couple, and with that being said, I planned on making my name known here at this school by getting involved like I was back at my old school.
I still very much wanted to attend Berkeley, and I knew I had to keep my grades up, but like Mrs. Jacobs said, I also had to keep up with my extra curriculars, and that was exactly what I was going to do. Chance sparked a fire back to life inside of me last night, and today that spark grew stronger. I couldn’t help but feel like he was exactly what I needed to bring me back from the darkness that had consumed me since the accident.
Loosening my hold around his neck, Chance slowly pulled away from the kiss, as his eyes stared into mine, making my breath hitch, as his thumb moves to my bottom lip, slightly pulling it down, until it cups my chin with the help of his index finger. Tightening his hold gently on my chin, he tilts my head back, making my heart skip a beat, as he says to me, “I told you that you would enjoy getting back at her.”
The haze that he had pulled over my eyes quickly disappeared, as I realized he knew exactly what I had been up to. Thankfully, by the smirk forming on his face, before he looked over his shoulder at them, I knew he too was enjoying their fall, as all eyes were still on us and not them.
Peering over his shoulder at them, it was clear that Jessica was fuming, as I could see her grip tightening around Chase’s arm, while Chase stared directly at me, with his eyes narrowed. His stare was by no means
like Jessica’s, as it was more a stare of disbelief and betrayal, and to be honest, his stare worried me more
than Jessica’s did, as it was clear that he was going to retaliate somehow.
Chance let out a huff, as he turned back to look at me, pulling my gaze away from Chase’s, while Chance said to me, “I think I might find satisfaction in this myself.” Before he leaned down one last time, placing a kiss on my forehead, before he says, “I’ll see you at lunch.”
As he walked away from me, I closed my locker, before moving towards my classroom, not giving them a second glance, wanting them both to continue to stew in their downfall as the school’s power couple.
Mazie was already at her desk as I entered the classroom, and I quickly moved to the desk beside her, taking a seat as I said to her, “You’re never going to believe the night I had.” Before I asked her, “By the wa what happened to you at the waterhole? One minute you were in the water with me, and the next minute
you were gone.”
I could tell that my question made her instantly nervous, as she looked away from me, not able to stare i my eyes, as she says to me, “I took off with Cash. He was pretty upset when Conner almost jumped straight down on you, and I didn’t think he should be alone. Besides, Chance had you, and I knew you we in good hands.”
She was right, she did leave me in good hands, and I probably had her to thank for Chance and me being together, but as I stared at her, it was easy to see that something was clearly off with her. This was only
day thiet of me knowing her, but both days beforehand she had been happy and chipper, but today she seemed to be down, making me wonder what truly happened to her after she had disappeared.
Unfortunately, now wasn’t the time or place to get into that with her, and as the bell rang, my eyes moved to the door to see Chase come strolling into the classroom with his eyes focused on me the whole time he moved to his seat. Even with him no longer in my sight, I could still feel his piercing eyes on me, making me realize this was going to be along first period.
