Chapter 147-2

Drawing back my growl, I swallowed it down, as I looked down at Jacob, praying that he could remember at least one damn thing that would point me in the right direction of where the hell Raven could possibly be. Taking my own deep breath, I knelt once again before him, before I said, “You are doing great, Jacob. Now can you please tell me anything that you may remember seeing when Raven jumped that could point us in the right direction of where on earth she could possibly be.”

Jacob began to shake his head, and with regret in his voice, he says to me, “I ran for the front door, because I was going to jump after her, but I froze when I realized that they had jumped into complete and utter darkness. It seriously looked like the black hole you see in a science fiction magazine.”

Jacob then begins to slightly sob, before he admits, “I was too scared to go after her.”

Tears began to stream slowly down Jacob’s cheeks, as I shook my head and closed my eyes, realizing that he hadn’t seen anything that could help us find her. My questions had gotten me nowhere, other than now having a sobbing male friend of Raven’s sitting in front of me, clearly upset with himself for not being brave enough to go after her.

Once again, I was losing hope of her returning before her birthday, but this time it was worse, knowing that she had run from Lexi, and that she was out there in the middle of Goddess

knows where. The only bit of hope I had was that Mazie was with her, and I knew that she would do whatever it took to protect her, because she wouldn’t let me down again.

Opening my eyes, I placed my hand on Jacob’s shoulder, knowing that it wasn’t his fault that he was scared, because I understood that the supernatural world can be scary to those that hadn’t been raised around it. Plus, let’s face it, human males aren’t made like shifters, especially us wolves.

“Jacob, you must calm down.” I said to him, not really knowing what else to say, but I know that I must try and be kind to him, because he obviously means something to Raven.

Throwing his hands up in the air, he lets out another sob, before he cries out, “What happens if we don’t find her before her birthday or hell this super moon?”

Jacob not only catches my attention with what he just says, but he also grabs Cash’s attention too, making Cash now move directly to his side, as he asks him, “What did you just say?” Like he too was wondering if he had heard him right.

“I just overheard them talking about Raven having to let the three of you mark her by that moon or else she may not get her wolf and survive until the next one comes in twenty years.”

Jacob says with a bit of hysteria in his voice, making me take a step back, as I realized that Lexi knew more than she was letting on to know about Raven, and why her wolf is like it is.

By the sounds of things, whoever had hired Lexi knew what was going on with Raven, and that they clearly sent Lexi here to stop it from happening. But what I didn’t understand was why Lexi was being so forthcoming with the information. It was almost as if Lexi wanted whatever was going to happen to be Raven’s choice, making me wonder if Lexi had let her emotions get in the way of her job.

The more I thought about it, the more none of it made a bit of damn sense to me, and at this point, I didn’t know honestly who the hell we could trust. The only thing that I did know was that we needed to find Raven, and soon, especially if what Jacob had heard was true.

Unfortunately, we had no clue where the hell Raven and Mazie were, as it was unclear where this damn black hole that Lexi had conjured led to. Hell, by the sounds of it, Lexi herself had no clue where Raven now was, and that was why she too had made the jump to find her.

Turning, I looked at Cash, before I said to him, “Take Jacob back to the ranch. It will be much

safer for him there.”

Jacob got instantly to his feet, while he said, “Oh hell no. I think my time here is done. I am getting on the first plane back to California, where my pretty little ass belongs.”

Even though it was clear that Jacob was being serious about leaving here, I unfortunately couldn’t allow him to do so, especially not now that he knew about us. Plus, there was a part of me that thought he might be somewhat useful to me, especially when it came to dealing with Lexi, because for some reason the witch took a liking to him.

“Unfortunately, I can’t allow you to leave.” Is all I said to Jacob, before Cash grabbed a hold of his arm, and led him to Raven’s car that was parked in the lane.

No words needed to be spoken between Cash and me, as he knew that we had to contain the situation, and use whatever leverage we possibly could have against the witch to get Raven back. Unfortunately for Jacob, he was in the middle of a supernatural feud, and right now, he might be the only thing that we had to bargain with.

Opening the door, Cash pushed Jacob into the car, before he slammed the door shut, sealing him inside the car, while he moved around to the driver’s side door to get in himself. Even with the doors shut and the windows up, you could hear Jacob’s mouth going, as he pleaded with Cash to let him go.

Cash paused with his hand on the handle to the driver’s door, looking straight in my direction,

as he mind links me, “Are you sure about this?”

Honestly, right now, I’m not sure about anything, but one thing I knew, was that I would do

whatever it took to get Raven back. If there was the slightest bit of a chance that we could benefit from holding Jacob hostage, then that was exactly what we were going to do, as I found myself grasping at straws right now.
