Chapter 148-1

Cash’s POV

One thing I hated the most in this world was babysitting duty, and that was exactly what my brother had me on. If it wasn’t for the constant yacking, it probably wouldn’t be so bad, but Jacob’s mouth was like the damn energizer bunny, as it kept going and going.

Honestly, I thought about knocking his ass out, but unfortunately, I had taken an oath not to ever hurt an innocent human, leaving me to have to suffer through the pain. By the time I was pulling into the ranch, my ears literally felt like they were bleeding, and I couldn’t wait to remove myself from the confinement of the car with him.

I barely had the car shut off, before I had my door open, jumping out of the damn car for a moment of solace, but unfortunately, that moment of silence only lasted a mere few seconds before Jacob too opened his door. It was obvious that he wasn’t going to stop his constant nagging until I somehow put him at ease, but I had no clue what to even say to him to make him feel like he could trust me.

In a way, I knew why my brother wanted him, as I knew he thought he might be able to use him as leverage over Lexi to get Raven back. But honestly, I think if push came to shove, that witch would do whatever it took, because at the end of the day, she was still a witch for hire.

Slamming the car door shut, I closed my eyes and took a deep breath, trying to find what inner peace I had still left inside of me, but unfortunately, Jacob wasn’t going to allow me that either. Opening my eyes, I found the twerp standing directly in front of me, still begging me to let him go. If it wasn’t for my damn brother insisting that we keep him here, I would have driven him straight to the nearest airport and put his ass on the first flight back to California myself.

But unfortunately, here we were, and I needed to deal with the situation at hand, because it clearly wasn’t going to get any better until I put this idiot at ease that I had no plans of harming him. It would be so much easier if I could just tell him that werewolves are sworn to not harm innocent humans, but then that would expose a weakness of ours, and I had also taken an oath to never do that either.

So, instead, I had to find the right words to say to him to somewhat put him at ease, so that he would shut his damn mouth, even if it was just for a minute. Exhaling my breath, long and slowly, I composed myself, before I said to him, “You really need to calm down. We have no plans on harming you, we just need you here to help us get Raven back safely.”

To my surprise, my choice of words somehow worked, as Jacob’s mouth finally closed, while he stared at me with what looked like a confused look on his face. It was as if he was

stunned and in awe that I was asking him for his help.

Clain

Truth be told, I honestly had no clue what the hell he possibly had to offer in the sense of helping, because he had already told us everything that he knew, but still, if you tell someone that you need their help, it normally leads to civil interaction.

“Oh, I never thought that was why you guys were keeping me here.” Jacob says, as he takes a step back from me, finally looking like he was going to calm the hell down.

Shaking my head, knowing this one was going to be interesting to hear, I asked him, “What were you thinking we wanted from you?”

Jacob’s shoulders shrugged, as he kicked the dirt beneath his feet with his shoe, before he said, “Honestly, I thought you might set me loose in the forest and hunt me down for sport, ripping me into a million little pieces.”
