Chapter 148-2

My nose wrinkled just at the mere thought, making me realize that this dude had some serious issues, if he could imagine something so sinister. But as I thought about it, a moment ago, when his damn mouth wasn’t stopping, I might have considered it.

Shaking my head once again at him, I said to him, “Yeah, um, that isn’t going to happen.” Before I moved past him, walking towards the house, not able to get the damn image out of my mind now, as I wondered how many crazy ass horror films this guy had watched in his lifetime.

“Wait, so you aren’t going to eat me?” He now asks as he runs up beside me, right before I

move to step onto the porch.

A chuckle came from my lips, as I couldn’t believe what I was about to actually say to him. No, I have no plans on eating you, nor do my brothers, but if you don’t calm the hell down, I might be forced to gag you.”

Walking into the house, I didn’t even have to call out to see where my grandmother was, as the smell of pumpkin mixed with a hint of cinnamon filled the air, making my mouth instantly water. Even though the scent was tempting, and my stomach was growling, I didn’t know if I could eat a thing, as I had been a ball of nerves since Raven disappeared.

With the potent smell in the air, I didn’t even have to tell Jacob to follow me, as he actually pushed right past me walking down the hallway, as he called out to my grandmother, “Is that pumpkin I smell?”

My grandmother’s eyes widened when she saw Jacob coming into the kitchen, and for a brief moment, I could see the hope in her eyes that she thought we had found Raven, but when her eyes landed on my face, all that hope disappeared. I took a moment to brief my grandmother, as Jacob sat at the island, woofing down half of a freshly baked pumpkin pie that had just cooled, with a serious helping of ice cream on top.

Between telling my grandmother about what we had learned, to listening to Jacob rambling on about there not being much food in the Wilson’s house, I was beginning to feel a bit overwhelmed, wishing I was back in the clearing, sitting in silence, waiting for Raven to return. But unfortunately, that clearly wasn’t going to happen, as I now had lost all hope that

Raven was going to be able to return on her own.

“I am so sorry dear, but don’t underestimate the power of the mate bond. If Raven truly chooses you as her mate and your brothers, the bond will find a way to bring you all back together.” My grandmother says to me, trying to reassure me, as she pulled me into a much-needed embrace, and I couldn’t help but close my eyes, allowing her comfort to

As I stood there in my grandmother’s embrace, trying to tune the world out around me, the sound of a ringing phone echoed into the kitchen, not allowing me to surrender to her mothering comfort for too long. Pulling away from her embrace, I looked straight up, knowing that the ringing was coming from straight above our heads.

“Your brother’s phone has been ringing nonstop.” My grandmother says, making my eyes narrow, wondering who on earth could be calling him.

Knowing that it must be important. I rushed upstairs to his room, while praying that it didn’t have to do with him canceling his business meeting with Alpha Zane tomorrow.

Unfortunately, by the time I had entered Chance’s bedroom, his phone had stopped ringing, leaving me looking at his screen of almost a dozen missed calls, all by the same damn phone number.

The area code displayed on the cell phone’s home screen, didn’t look a bit familiar to any that I had seen before, leaving me to wonder if it was one of those pain in the ass telemarketers that won’t stop calling you. Unfortunately, Chance’s damn voicemail seemed to be full, and there were no new messages that were left.

Thinking that the person might call back, since they had tried so many times beforehand, I unplugged the fully charged phone, taking it downstairs with me, as I still needed to figure out what to do with Jacob. Sitting the phone on the island, I moved to the refrigerator, pulling out a container of freshly made sweet tea, thinking that it might just hit the spot, as my mother had always tried using it to cheer me up as a child.

But as I moved to grab a glass from the cabinet and begin to pour the sweet tea into it, Jacob out of nowhere said, “Who do you know that has a satellite phone?”

“What kind of phone?” I asked him, as I turned to look over at him, noticing my brother’s cell right away in his hand, realizing that he was talking about the phone number that had called so many times.

“Satellite phones have distinct phone numbers, because they are specially issued and are military-equipped to run only off orbital satellites.” He then says, waving my brother’s phone at me, and I couldn’t help but look at him, wondering how the hell he knew all this, but then he says to me, “Military brat.” Making me realize that Jacob knew exactly what he was talking

about.

freaking Egypt, because she couldn’t find her with her little spell she did. Do you think that maybe Raven got her hands on a satellite phone?”

I didn’t waste another second moving to Jacob’s side, before plucking the phone right from his hand, thinking that there was only one way to find out. Not hesitating even for a second, I pressed redial on the phone number, hoping that if it was Raven, that it wouldn’t be too late.
