Chapter 150-1

Raven’s POV

I found myself restless the rest of the day, as I sat around waiting for Mazie to wake up, praying that she would be okay, but also that she would open her eyes before the clock struck midnight. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen, and when the moon hung at its highest an inevitable fear rushed through me, thinking that something crazy was going to happen.

Honestly, I had myself so worked up, thinking of the worst possible scenarios that I had let my imagination take over, leading me to believe that I might even die. But as I looked up at the moon, shining its heavenly beams down on me, I honestly didn’t feel a damn thing, making me realize that I had worried all day for nothing.

If anything, I sort of felt comfort in the light of the moon, as if it was trying to soothe away my worries now, making me believe that the moon just may hold some kind of supernatural healing powers. I don’t know why, but at that moment, I found myself just staring straight up at it, almost hypnotized by its beauty, as I said a little prayer with a birthday wish, hoping and praying that someone was listening to me.

My birthday wish and prayer were simple, as all I wanted for my birthday was to be back in Beaumont before the end of the day, with Mazie awake and healthy. Honestly, I didn’t think it was too much to ask, as all I wanted was to feel safe and be around those that I knew cared

about me.

Unfortunately, I was leaning towards my prayers not being answered, because, as of lately, I was questioning whether there was a higher power, and if so, why were they allowing all this bad shit to happen to me. Between losing my parents and being shipped across the country, to losing my last living relative, it had me wondering if I was being punished for something, but the question was what?

I mean, I had done my fair share of sneaking out with my friends to go to parties, but I also maintained my grades and still held my damn V card. So, the question was, what the hell did! do so wrong to be punished like this?

Quickly, I closed my eyes, as tears began to pool behind them, from thinking about those that I had lost, and knowing that there was more loss to come, as it was clear these rogues weren’t going to stop until they got what they wanted. Unfortunately, I had no clue what that was, but something was telling me that it had to do with my ancestors.

before turning around to see him slowly walking towards the campfire I was sitting around

alone.

With it now being past midnight, everyone else in the camp had either gone to bed for the night or they were out on what they called patrol, making sure that no outsiders stumbled their way into their camp. Something was telling me though, that the patrol was more than that, especially after some of them had been chased by a rogue wolf today.

Forcing a smile on my face, I thanked him, as I tried to pull myself together, but it was definitely easier said than done, especially with everything that had recently happened, on top of it being my eighteenth birthday. Honestly, if you had asked me a year ago where I had foreseen myself in a year, it definitely wouldn’t have been here, especially not in the damn middle of West Virginia.

“Maybe you should get some rest. You never know what tomorrow will bring.” Carl tells me, obviously seeing my exhaustion, as he moves to take a seat around the fire next to me.

He was right, I probably should get some rest, but in all honesty, I couldn’t sleep even if I wanted to, as I had way too much on my mind right now. Plus, let’s face it, I was in the middle of God knows where with a shit ton of bigfoots.
