Chapter 152-1

Cash’s POV

This was definitely not the rescue trip I was thinking of when I had talked to my brother about heading to the coordinates of where the satellite phone had pinged from, but why would I even think that I would be off babysitting duty? My patience was running thin, and it was taking all I had to maintain my cool, especially with Jacob sitting beside me thinking he was the lead singer to every song that came on the radio in the last four hours of our drive.

If it wasn’t for the dire situation we were in and my lack of sleep, I may have found some humor in his way, but right now, I was seriously on edge, not knowing what to expect when

we arrived at the coordinates.

In a way, I understood where my brother was coming from when he insisted that Jacob join me, as it was clear that Jacob was an asset in finding whoever had made the call with his cunning ways of using a computer. Unfortunately, I believed that was where Jacob, being an asset to us, stopped, as I honestly didn’t think he was going to do so well when we actually had to make our way deep into the wilderness.

There was no doubt that I would be able to make it to the coordinates much quicker on my own, but here I was, having to have a tag along, being forced to travel by other means other than my wolf. I guess in a way, it was probably for the best, as this area we were heading to was known for its camping and hiking, and it would be favorable if my wolf went undetected, especially since I was in a whole different region that my family had no reign over.

Thankfully, halfway through the night, Jacob passed out, giving me time to finally think in silence about how exactly I was going to attack the voyage that lay ahead of me. The problem I foresaw was getting deep within the mountain range quickly with a damn human’s safety to worry about, one that I knew Raven cherished as a friend.

If I was on my own, I knew I would take chances, with the mere thought that it might be her out there that needed my help. But with Jacob to worry about, I knew that I had to be careful, because if anything happened to him on my watch, I knew Raven would never forgive me.

I drove all through the night, arriving at a secluded area that I found on the map that I thought would be the best point of entry. Getting out of the truck, I let Jacob continue to sleep, as I moved to unload Beaumont’s search and rescue sport utility vehicle off the trailer that I had conveniently borrowed from our fire station before I left town.

I wasn’t used to having to use other forms of transportation, especially in the mountains, but today, I was going to have to gas up this beast that has been sitting in the fire station since the day our town bought it. If you asked me, it was a waste of money, especially for a town of

wolves, but then again, it was going to finally come in handy as it was the only means of transportation I had to take Jacob with me.

Claim

Firing the beast up, the engine purred to life, before I backed it off the trailer to let it idle for a bit, as I moved to unload the truck with supplies that I had brought along that we might need. Jacob must have been woken by the engine, and when I moved to open the back door to the truck, he was gathering his belongings before opening his own door.

As I moved to the bed of the sport utility vehicle with the gear, I noticed that Jacob had retrieved a black bag from the back of the truck, one that I didn’t remember packing. Instantly, I began to wonder what the hell was in the black bag, as it was clear that it held something of importance in it, because Jacob sat it on the front seat where he would be sitting beside me, instead of placing it in the back with the rest of the gear.
