Chapter 152-3
My body was now running on pure adrenaline, as I knew the camp where the call had come from was just a few miles away from where we were, but unfortunately, those few miles felt like forever away. It honestly felt like it was taking forever to make it through the vast forest in front of us, as the old maintenance trail was becoming overgrown from its lack of care over the years.
Out of the corner of my eye, I could see Jacob holding on for dear life with one hand, as he held the piece of equipment that he had taken from the fire station with the other one, while! tried to make ease of the terrain. But unfortunately, it was becoming rather bumpy even with the extra care I was taking, and I knew that those few miles left to go weren’t going to be easy to make, especially if I had to do it in this damn thing.
The deeper we got into the forest, and the more time that was passing, I could feel my wolf pacing within me, begging me to let him free. It was as if he could sense something that I couldn’t, making me begin to have faith that Raven was truly nearby, as it was the only thing that made sense of his behavior. But with my wolf’s unsteadiness, it also brought a fear forward that something was wrong, and it was taking every ounce of restraint that I had left inside of me, not to pull this vehicle to a halt and take off on my own, knowing that I could reach her faster by myself.
With my knuckles turning white, holding onto the steering wheel, I continued to push forward, hoping that this camp we were searching for was not too much further ahead. Unfortunately, by the looks of things on the screen in front of Jacob, the damn red dot doesn’t seem to be getting any closer, making me question if we were heading on the right path.
Just as I began to question this, my eyes spotted an extremely large tree down across what was left of the trail, making me bring the vehicle to a halt. Unbuckling my seat belt, I got out and began to walk towards the fallen tree, assessing if there was another path around it, so that we could stay on course.
It wasn’t until I made it to the right side of the tree did the wind shift slightly in my direction, carrying an undesirable potent scent straight to me of rotten eggs telling m

The shift happened before I could even try and reason with my wolf, but in all honesty, there was no reasoning to be had, as it was clear that Raven had been injured, and we needed to get to her, even if that meant leaving behind her human friend. Faintly, I could hear Jacob calling out my name, but my wolf didn’t even bother to turn in his direction, because right. now he had a one-track mind and that was to follow the scent of honey, hoping that it would lead us straight to Raven.
Leaping over the fallen tree, my wolf began to take off, but within a few steps he froze when a ratchet stench fully filled my sense of smell. It wasn’t until I looked down, did I see the earth beneath my feet covered in the thick crimson liquid, making me take a few steps back, as my heart began to race in my chest seeing so much blood. It wasn’t the blood per se that had my stomach in a knot, but the thought that this blood might belong to Raven, as her scent now lingered heavily in the surrounding air.
“Is that blood?” Jacob cried out from behind me, drawing my attention towards him. I could tell right away that the sight of the blood was clearly affecting him, as his face was completely flush.
Jacob’s eyes widened as he continued to look past me at the blood, before he barely says to me, “I think I am going to puke.”
Bending over, his body completely disappears from my sight behind the fallen tree, but unfortunately, I could hear him relieving himself of what he had eaten on the road trip here. My wolf shook his head, trying to dismiss what Jacob was doing as he turned his attention back to what was in front of us, trying to focus on our surroundings to piece together what had happened here.
Stepping forward, my wolf lowered his head to the ground, before he took in a whiff of the blood coating the earth. Instantly, both my wolf and I were wishing that he hadn’t done that, as the stench was potent and burned my nostrils as if I had inhaled fire itself.
On the other hand, there was no doubt in my mind that this blood wasn’t Raven’s, giving me hope that she was out here alive. Unfortunately, it was clear that even though Raven was hundreds of miles from Beaumont, she was still being hunted by rogues, making me realize even if she wanted to run back to California, she wouldn’t be safe there.
The only place that would be remotely safe for her was with my brothers and me, as we were the only ones on this planet willing to die for her. But as I continued to scan the blood-coated earth in front of me, I noticed that maybe we weren’t the only ones that were willing to lay our
