Moon Phased: The Triple Claim novel Chapter 31

Chapter19-2

I should have known that Jessica would be the captain of the squad and that my future would be in her hands, but I couldn’t allow her to see the worry that now plagued me about making the squad. Skill-wise, i knew I was better than she could possibly he, as i was sure there were no competitive gymnastic schools around here that she would have attended. Plus, I knew that the captain of the squad wasn’t the only one that had say in who made the squad, so she was just one vote to keep me from making it.

Jessica at that moment went to lunge for Mazie, as it was clear that she didn’t like what Mazie had to say about her, but I didn’t allow Jessica to reach Mazie, as I quickly stepped in Jessrea’s path, blocking her, as I said, “What’s wrong? Did Mazie hit the nail on the head?”

Jessica stepped forward, and her nose was barely two inches from mine, as she let out a growl, this time infuriated by what I had said to her, but I didn’t care, as I stood my ground to her.

Under her breath, Jessica says to me, “I warned you that you didn’t belong here, but it’s clear you’re not going to heave my warning. So, whatever happens to you is in your hands now, but just know, I’m not the only one that doesn’t want you here.”

Taking a step back from me, plastering that damn fake smile on her face, she now says to me, “I’ll see you

at practice.” As she turns and walks awa

off in such a short period of time being here. But by the looks I was getting from those staring at me, she

was blowing smoke in the wind, wanting me to believe that others hated me like she did.

I wasn’t going to play into her games, and I wasn’t going to heave no damn warning from her about belonging here, as I had just as much right to be here as she does. My mother was born and raised here and so was my grandmother, and if my mother hadn’t left here, some version of me would have been born

here too.

“Are you okay?” Mazie asks me, as she rubs my arm, and I turn to look at her, shaking my head, as I say to her, “Trust me, I’m not going to let her get under my skin.”

“What are you going to do if you don’t make the squad because of her? Don’t you need it to keep your

acceptance?”

Looking away from Mazie, I spotted Jessica now in the back of the cafeteria with her fan club, glaring at me, knowing that I might be in a pickle but not willing to give up hope. I remember Chance saying that Jessica was only who she was today because of Chase, and without Chase she would be nothing.

As I continued to stare at Jessica, I said to Mazie, “I do, but there is no way in hell that she can get everyone judging to agree with her. I am just going to do my thing and show the judges and the coach that I am worthy of being on the squad. Hell, she keeps her shit up, I might even go for team captain when it goes to vote this year.”
