Moon Phased: The Triple Claim novel Chapter 32

Chapter29-1

Raven’s POV

“What’s wrong?” Chance asked me as he took a seat beside the at lunch, while I sat there with my food untouched.

I don’t know why I was allowing Jessica to get under my skin, but the thought of having to deal with her my whole senior year if I made the squad made my stomach turn, but then the alternative was even worse. If I didn’t make the squad, then I was going to have to find something else to look good on my transcripts, and there wasn’t much at this school that they had to offer.

“Jessica happened.” Mazie said nonchalantly, as she reached onto Cash’s tray, stealing a French fry from it, before popping it in her mouth.

“Hey, that was my French fry!” Cash said to her with a puppy dog look on his face, as Mazie opened her mouth to show him the half-chewed French fry, before asking him, “Do you want it back?”

Cash shook his head, telling her, “No, you can keep it.” As Chance wrapped his arm around me, drawing my attention away from those two to him.

Snuggling his head into my neck, I felt his warm breath on my flesh, instantly sending chills throughout my

body, making me close my eyes, feeling comfort in his embrace. But before I could get too lost in his

comfort, he whispered to me, “Tell me what Jessica did.”

Exhaling a long breath, I began to explain to him my situation and the predicament I was in, as he glared back at Jessica like he was going to say something to her. Honestly, I wasn’t going to say anything to him in the first place about it, because I didn’t want him to get involved and cause more friction between him

and Chase with her than I already have.

From Chase’s reaction this morning, it was clear that he was already upset seeing his brother and me together, and by him not being here right now, I assume it caused friction between him and Jessica. I knew that was what his brothers wanted, and to be honest, I really wasn’t looking forward to any more family dinners with Jessica being there, but I didn’t want to ruin what relationship the brothers still had

because of me.

“I’ll have a talk with her.” Chance says, and I quickly plead with him not to, and to let me do this on my own. Thankfully, he agreed before the bell rang, and I felt bad that I had spent our lunch complaining to him, when all I wanted to do was enjoy our time together.

Giving me a quick kiss, Chance reassured me that everything would be okay and that he would pick me up after practice, before Cash and he took off to their next class. Looking over my shoulder as Mazie and I began to walk out of the cafeteria, I spotted Jessica still glaring at me, making me second guess if I should have had Chance talk to her. But then I realized that if I couldn’t stand up to her myself, then I would allow myself to be a victim of her bullying, and I wasn’t going to allow that to happen.

Walking out onto the field after school, a group of girls also trying out for the squad waved me over to

them as they started to introduce themselves forme, before Jessica rudely interrupted them by blowing a whistle like a damn drill sergeant, making us all turn to lusk at her.

“Listen up, newbies. This4s my squad, and I don’t take kindly to talking during my practices. Also, if you are here just for the boys, don’t waste my time or yours. Plus, this year there will be required skills, and if you can’t master them by Friday, don’t bother trying out.”

A girl raised her hand, before she said to Jessica, “I thought that there were six slots open, and by the looks of things there are six of us. So, why do we need tryouts?”

Jessica narrowed her eyes as she looked at the girl, making the girl take a step back towards me, before Jessica said to her, “Are you deaf? I just said there are required skills and if you can’t master them, then you aren’t making the team. I don’t care how many spots there were to be ort the team. I am sheer captain, and what I say goes.”
