Moon Phased: The Triple Claim novel Chapter 311

Chapter 155-2

Looking now between the doctor and the man that had led me here to the tent, I decided that since one of theirs was with Raven, then this was just as much their burden to find them as it was my own. At least I was hoping they would see it that way, because right now I needed all the help I could get. I was unfamiliar with the terrain, as I had never been to West Virginia in my entire life, and by the looks of things, these people knew this area better than anyone.

With this thought, I decided to try and convince these two to help me, by saying to them, On my way here, I came upon the remnants of an accident. There was a ton of blood, mostly, I would say, from the rogue wolf, but I can’t be sure if this Carl you speak of isn’t hurt too. I know my mate was there, as I could easily smell her scent, and I thought that I was on the right track when I followed the scent of one of yours here, but I guess this Carl you speak of was clever enough to disguise his scent when they left the scene of the accident.”

The man that had led me to the tent’s eyes widened as he turned his head to look at the doctor. The two men just stood there in silence staring at each other, as if they were having some kind of silent conversation between them. For all I knew they might just be, as I honestly had no clue anything really about their species other than what I had read in books, which was very vague, as their kind was known to be private.

It felt like minutes were passing by, but I remained silently standing there, while the two of them continued to stare at each other, in the hopes that they would offer to help me find Raven and their comrade Carl.

Unfortunately, though, my patience was wearing thin, as my wolf stirred restlessly, knowing that our mate was somewhere within these mountains. For all I knew, she too could be hurt, or hell the rogues could have gotten her and this Carl by now.

I was just about to lose all hope that these two were going to help me, when the man that led me to the tent said to me, I will join you with a small party to track them.

I let out a sigh of relief at his words, knowing that he was willing to help me. As we exited the medical tent so that he could gather his men, I decided that I needed to find Mazie because after hearing what the doctor had to say, it was clear that I owed her an apology.

Easily, I picked up Mazie’s scent, which headed straight towards the other side of the camp that I had arrived at. Knowing that she had spent time with Jacob, I was sure that she was probably just talking to him, but as I made my way to the edge of their camp, I realized quickly that wasn’t the case.

The spot where I knew that I had brought the sport utility vehicle to a halt now sat unoccupied. Jacob was also gone and so were the dozens of men that once stood guard

around us. Turning in a circle, I began to search for any signs of the vehicle or Jacob, but unfortunately, I had a funny feeling that I couldn’t shake.

As one of the campers casually moved to walk past me, I reached out to stop him, as I asked, Do you by chance know where the male that I came here with went to?

The man immediately nodded his head, before he turned around and pointed towards the forest, as he says, The she wolf and he took off in that direction together.

I tried my best to hold in the growl that was rising in my chest, as I should have known better. Mazie was already pissed at me, and it was clear that I had pushed her over the edge by accusing her moments ago of not protecting her Luna.

There was no doubt in my mind that she was trying to make things right and prove me wrong. Plus, I was sure that Jacob was more than willing to help her find Raven with that little black bag of his.

Everything okay?I heard a voice ask me, making me turn around to see a small group of men standing in a partial circle around the man that had left to form a search party.

Nodding, because I didn’t want him to know that this might end up being a search party to rescue four, I lied to him by telling him, Everything is good.

Good. Then we better be on our way. We only have so many hours of daylight left today, and we have a lot of ground to cover. The man then said, before he and his party walked past me, as they began to shift into their supernatural forms, while I realized there was one good thing about tracking without Jacob, and that was I got to do it in my wolf form.

Following suit, I shifted into my wolf and quickly went to work sniffing the earth beneath my feet, picking up a faint hint of honey that was left over from last night. Running past the search party, I let out a howl, letting them know to follow me, as I prayed that this time, I had found the right trail to follow.
