Cash’s POV

We weren’t even a mile into the thickness of the forest when I picked up a scent that made me instantly leave out a low growl, as I now knew that I wasn’t the only one that had tracked Raven. Turns out, Lexi must have somehow succeeded in one of her location spells, tracking Raven here too. Right now, she seemed to be ahead of me, telling me that I must be heading in the right direction.

Unfortunately, I couldn’t allow Lexi to get to Raven before me, because I wasn’t going to allow her to pull one over me like she had done with my brother. Feeling desperate, I picked up my pace, while motioning to the small tracking party to follow me, as I stayed hot on Lexi’s trail.

Lexi’s scent was growing fresher by the second, and the further we got from the bigfoots‘ camp, the more potent it grew, telling me this witch wasn’t that far ahead of us. By the looks of things, she was heading straight towards a ridge where I could see the sign of light grey smoke filling the sky, which was a definite sign that someone was camping.

With the pace that I was leading at, I would have thought by now that I would have caught up to Lexi, but unfortunately, my eyes never spotted even the slightest glimpse of her. It was as if she was somehow invisible, which was clearly a possibility when it came to her and her damn abilities. But luckily for me, she had forgotten one thing to mask, which was her scent, and I wasn’t going to stop until I found her.

As I neared the vicinity of where the grey smoke was coming from, I slowed my pace and proceeded with caution. I honestly had no clue where the hell Lexi was leading me to, and for all I knew, it could be a damn trap knowing her. But then again, Jacob said that she was desperately trying to locate Raven, and when her location spells didn’t work, she made a jump for it, just like Raven had.

Still, I wasn’t going to take any chances with her, as I didn’t trust the witch for a second. I had hoped, with her being around Raven all these years, that she would have developed an actual friendship with her, as it was very easy to want to love and care for Raven, because she was truly a good–hearted person. But I honestly sometimes think money is the root of all evil, and it can cloud people’s hearts.

Jacob, on the other hand, seemed to believe that Lexi truly does care for Raven, and that she has Raven’s best interest at heart, but I could see that he too was questioning his own beliefs, as everything was so foreign to him that was happening.

All this time, he was led to believe that the two women in his life that were his best friends were humans, but this simple trip to Beaumont had proven to him that things aren’t always

as they seem. Finding out that he had been in the middle of a financial arrangement all these years, had to hit not just him hard, but Raven too, as I knew by Raven jumping that she had

lost trust and faith in Lexi.

Between Raven’s lack of trust in her and how she had taken Raven away from us, I found myself unable to trust Lexi or believe that she was doing anything in Raven’s best interest. If anything, I was sure that she was doing it for the money, and I knew that I couldn’t trust her as far as I could throw her, but I knew right now, she was my best bet for finding Raven.

But as I approached a clearing on the ridge of the mountain and the grey smoke, I realized that was all it was, as it was just smoke blowing in the wind from an old campfire from the night before. Shifting back into my human form, I moved quickly towards the makeshift fire ring and placed my hand over the cinders, trying to get a rough estimate of how long it had been since it had been abandoned.
