Moon Phased: The Triple Claim novel Chapter 317

Chapter 158-2

Frustration filled me as I realized that the fire was from the night before, but with the heavy wind conditions we were having, mother nature was continuing to stroke the fire, not allowing it to go out. At first, I was a bit pissed that the person responsible for the fire didn’t make sure that it was all the way out, but as the wind blew right in my direction from ahead of us, I realized that this was a blessing from the heavens above.

My nose wrinkled as the awful stench of rotten egg hit me like a ton of bricks, before I turned to look at the tracking party that had accompanied me to find Raven and their fellow peer, Carl. By the looks of things, I wasn’t the only one that had figured out what was ahead of us, as the look of fear was now apparent in their eyes.

Of all the backup that I could have had out here in the wilderness, why was it that Raven had to find the most peaceful supernatural creatures? I mean, I guess when push came to shove, they probably would be a force to be reckoned with, but that’s if they got over their fears.

Right now, I just needed to pray that if we came upon a pack of rogues that they would stand beside me, because if they didn’t, Alpha or not, I knew my limitations when it came to how many I could handle at once.

The leader of the men that had accompanied me, who I now believes name is Seth, turned to look at me, and believe it or not, I was shocked not to see the same fear in his eyes, telling me that he was different from the others that he had brought along with us.

We need to continue. Is all he said, before he began to walk in his long strides straight into the wind, as if he knew their stench would lead us to Raven and his fellow peer.

Thankfully, we were on the same page, but as for his tracking party, I wasn’t quite sure that was the case, but either way, they began to follow him with the slightest hint of hesitation. As for me, I kicked dirt onto the cinders, wanting to make sure we didn’t have a forest fire on our hands out here too, before I shifted back into my wolf, taking back the point position, while I tried to pick back up on Lexi’s scent.

As if she wanted me to find her scent, it hit me even harder than the rogueswretched scent, making me wonder if she was deliberately leaving it for me to follow. I had already figured out that Lexi wasn’t stupid, and there was no doubt in my mind that she knew she was going to need backup if Raven had gotten herself captured by a pack of rogues.

It made sense now why she was masking herself but not her scent, as she was leading me straight where she wanted me. I was a complete fool for thinking that I had gotten one over on her, but then again, my thought process was to use her to find Raven, and in the end, I believed that was what she was giving me.

Chapter 158-2

Claim

The only problem I now perceived happening was, how was I to handle the rogues ahead and get to Raven before her? A part of me now wishes that Mazie wouldn’t have taken off, because right now, I really could have used my Beta to help me, along with having Jacob and his black bag of technology.

But unfortunately, I knew that it was my own damn fault that she had run off, because, once again, I allowed my emotions and fears to interfere, placing the blame for my own failures and faults onto her. In a way, I felt like our Moon Goddess was trying to make me pay for treating Mazie the way I had.

I just wished that she would have picked a different kind of punishment, as I now felt like my actions could be an undesirable result of getting Raven back safely. All I can do now is pray and follow Lexi’s scent, hoping that Mazie will find her way to Raven too, as I knew it was my only way now to secure Raven and get her back home to Beaumont, where she belongs.
