Chapter20-2
“Correction. You were cheef captain last year. We still need to have a vote at the end of this week” A middle aged woman said as she walked up behind Jessica, making Jessica force a smile on her face, as she says, “Yes, coach, but I am sure that I will be voted in again. Everyone fiere knows I am the best cheerleader we have. Plus, no one else has the experience like I do.”
You know that little voice in your head that tells you to keep your mouth shut and let it be? Yeah, well, 1 obviously either don’t have that voice or I didn’t listen to it, as I raised my hand and said, “I have the experience. I was cheer captain at my old school for two years, and I have beer cheering since I could walk.”
“Looks like you may have some competition this year, Miss Jacobs,” The coach fold Jessica, making Jessica turn to glare at me, as she crossed her arms over her chest, while the coach turned towards us to
begin practice.
Thankfully, I got paired up with the group of girls that had introduced themselves to me at the beginning of
practice, and it made the practice go by with ease, while I barely had to deal with Jessica, as she was too
busy with the upper-classmen. I didn’t care that I was with the freshmen, as I enjoyed being cheer captain for years, teaching the underclassmen firsthand, knowing that they were the future of our successful
squad.
“That’s a rap. Great first practice girls.” The coach told us before she grabbed her things, and everyone went racing towards the locker room.
As I began to follow the group, one of the girls stopped me and asked me, “Raven, is there anyway you can work on that last move with me? I’m having a hard time with the steps.”
“Sure.” I told her, as I moved back to where we were, going over the steps with her, one on one, until her mother called out over the fence, “Tonya, we have to get home for dinner.”
“Thank you for all your help, Raven. If I make the team on Friday, you have my vote as captain.” Tonya told me, as she gave me a quick hug, thanking me, before she ran off the field, joining her mother.

1 should have been the one to thank Tonya, as she made me feel like a cheer captain again, bringing back good memories of my life in California before the accident. As I walked towards the locker room with a smile on my face, I felt like I was finally starting to fit in here, and that Beaumont wasn’t so bad after all.
Making my way into the locker room, I realized that it was empty as I moved to my locker, knowing that I needed to hurry because I didn’t want to keep Chance waiting for me. As I began to change back into my clothes, the lights in the locker room go out, and I quickly yelled out, “I’m still in here.” To whomever shut them off, thinking that it must be the janitor.
But the lights remain off, making me begin to fumble around trying to find my phone, but as I reach into my backpack, the sound of a low growl echoes throughout the locker room, making me freeze in my tracks. Slowly, I turned around, as my heart began to race in my chest, feeling like whatever made the growl was
dud me.
The locker room was pitched black, as there were no windows allowing daylight to seep in, and I looked around the sheer darkness, trying to spot whatever made the growl, as my eyes began to slowly adjust. In the far back corner of the locker room, towards the shower area, I could have sworn I saw something move slightly.
I don’t know why, but I took a step toward the movement, thinking that it might just be a dog that had somehow gotten into the school, and it was just as scared as I was that the lights had gone out. But as ! stepped towards where I thought I had seen the movement, glowing red eyes appeared out of nowhere, sending a surge of fear throughout my body.
Taking off, I raced towards where I thought the door was, stumbling into everything in my path, as I screamed out for help. When I felt the cool feeling of metal on the wall, I knew I had made it to the door,
and I quickly reached for the handle only to find that the door was locked. In desperation,! began to beat on the door, hoping that someone would hear me, as I turned my head slightly, to see the glowing red eyes
slowly making their way towards me.
