Chapter 160-1

Raven’s POV

Carl grabbed ahold of my wrist, before he took off back towards the cabin, damn near dragging my ass, as I tried keeping up with his long strides, while my eyes remained fixated on the rogue wolves surrounding us. Pulling me inside the cabin, Carl slammed the door shut behind us, as he quickly moved to slide a small bookcase in front of it, in a feeble attempt to barricade us inside.

But as I stared out through the small window by the door, at the number of rogues now surrounding us, I knew that his attempt wasn’t going to do jack shit. There were easily enough rogue wolves to bust down the door if they wanted to, and by the looks of things, that was exactly what they were going to do, as they all looked like they were congregating in the middle of the front lawn, like they were coming up with a plan.

Carl, on the other hand, looked to be in dismay as he moved around the cabin, grabbing every heavy piece of furniture in the room, while he moved whatever he could in front of the windows. It was clear that he was obviously trying to completely barricade us inside, while I just stood there with my heart racing in my chest, knowing that I wouldn’t be any help to him moving stuff, as my ribs were now on fire from swinging the damn cast iron pan.

So instead of helping him, I just stood there at the window, keeping watch over the rogue wolves, waiting to see their next move. To my surprise, they just stood there, as if they were waiting for something, but it didn’t take long for me to realize that it wasn’t something, but someone that they were waiting for, as they parted like the damn Red Sea, allowing a huge black wolf to step forward.

Its red eyes looked like fire as the sun glistened off them, and even though I was new to this whole supernatural world, it didn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that this was their Alpha. He was the spitting image of the rogue wolves that had attacked me back at Beaumont, making me now wonder how many of these damn Alpha wolves that there were.

I mean seriously, there must be an endless supply of them, all out there gunning for me. We were in the damn mountains of West Virginia, with not an ounce of civilization in sight and hundreds of miles away from Beaumont, and here I was being hunted down by another one of them. It made me wonder if I had some kind of GPS implanted inside of me, because I had no clue how the hell these damn rogue Alphas were finding me.

Unlike the last couple of times, I had been up close and way too personal with them, but this time I was safely behind a window, if that was what you were going to call it, giving me actual time to look into the beast’s eyes, It was the first time that I didn’t feel like I was going to die in the next couple of seconds, giving me a chance to actually breathe, as I stared into its

eyes, wondering what in the hell was driving it to want to kill me.

Honestly, I knew very little of this world, because I had just found out about it right before all hell had broken loose with what Mazie called my heat. Lexi had whisked me away, not giving me a chance to speak to the Ryder brothers, nor even Mazie for that matter, not allowing them to explain to me more about this world that I belong to.

In a way, a part of me felt like Lexi was trying to protect me, but the million–dollar question was, was Lexi doing it because she was truly my friend or was it because she was being paid too. Unfortunately, right now, I couldn’t decipher between the two, and I knew it would just be best to keep Lexi at arm’s length until I knew her true intentions.

Although, if I was being honest, it would be nice if she just magically popped up out of nowhere to save the day, but I knew that was going to be a fat chance in hell, because if she was going to find me, she probably would have done it by now. Plus, I was pissed at her and even if she would miraculously show up and save the day, I still don’t believe that I could forgive her or trust her ever again.
