Moon Phased: The Triple Claim novel Chapter 323

Chapter 161-2

Carl shook his head, taking a step back from me, before he said, Deny it all you want, but you are of his blood. I missed it before, but now that I know, it’s not as easy for you to hide it from me.

Hide it from you?I asked him, as I raised my eyebrows, wondering if he truly thought I was purposely hiding something from him, because if he really thought that, then he was in for a rude awakening.

If anything, my whole damn life was nothing but one big ass fat lie, and I too had been lied to all these years about who I truly was, and if anyone was out of the dang loop it was me.

You didn’t know.Carl now says to me more like a statement than a question, as he could clearly now tell by the look on my face that this was just all new news to me too.

Shaking my head, I let him know my answer without saying a single word to him, as my eyes moved back to the window, spotting movement right outside of it. Pushing past Carl, I moved cautiously towards the window, trying to figure out what was causing the flickering of an orange hue. But it didn’t take me long to realize what it was, as smoke slowly began to seep under the door into the cabin.

Those sons of bitches are going to try and smoke us out.Carl says, as he quickly moved to a bucket that was lying on the floor by the stove, as he rips down one of the curtains right off its rod, dipping it into the water, before tying it around his face over his mouth and nose.

1, on the other hand, just stood there staring out the window, watching the orange hue flicker, as smoke began rolling into the cabin, while I thought to myself, why on earth was he doing this to me?

Why you ask? It’s nothing personal to me, it’s just that our uncle put such a bountiful price on your head that I just can’t refuse. Honestly, if it was up to me, I could give two shits if a wolfless bastard like yourself lives or dies, because you’re no skin off my back, but the reward for killing you, well that is too great for me to pass up.

My eyes closed, as I realized that this asshole could hear my thoughts, and it angered me that he could probably sense my fears right now. Not wanting to give him satisfaction, I shut myself down, not allowing myself to feel a damn thing, just like I had done after the accident that took my parentslives, leaving him completely in the dark.

Smoke began to slowly fill my lungs as I breathed in, making me immediately begin to cough, causing me to move away from the door towards Carl, who was dipping a second curtain in the bucket of water for me. Handing me the rung out curtain, I made haste, tying it around

the lower half of my face, as my heart began to race, realizing that these rogue wolves had us trapped.

I tried my best to keep my heart steady, as I didn’t want to give away any signs of distress to my socalled cousin, who obviously could sense my every mood and feelings, along with hearing my thoughts. But it was becoming harder by the second to remain calm, as the cabin was quickly filling up with white smoke, making it hard to see a damn thing. I knew it was just a matter of time before it would also make it hard to breathe even through the dampened

curtains.

We have to figure a way out of here.I said in distress, as I looked around the small cabin through the thick smoke that was forming towards the very few windows, wondering if Carl could fit through one of them.

Unfortunately, even if he would shift back into his human form, I was doubtful that he would, and there was no doubt in my mind that these rogues already had the cabin completely surrounded.

There’s no way out of here without going through them, and I don’t see us successfully doing that.Carl says, as if he is breaking the bad news to me, but I pretty much had already figured that out, but unlike him, I wasn’t giving up on hope.

With everything I had survived thus far, I wasn’t going out like this, especially in the middle of no man’s land. Unfortunately, I didn’t have a wolf to equal the playing field, but what I did have was my desire now to live, because I wasn’t going to allow someone to take my life from me. But as the smoke continued to roll into the cabin, it was making it hard to even see a foot in front of me, and as for the dampened curtains, they were beginning to fail, as Carl and I both began to cough simultaneously. Not giving it a second thought, I moved towards the door, trying to push the bookcase out of the way, because there was no way that we were going to make it in here much longer, and I would be damned if I allowed this smoke to take us.

Unfortunately, as I tried to move the bookcase, I found it almost impossible to budge, leaving me just standing there hoping and praying that Carl would also decide this was for the best. But as I stood there by the door, Carl didn’t budge from where he stood next to me, but instead he stared out the window as if something had caught his eye.

Honestly, I had no clue what the hell could have grabbed his full attention like it had, especially with the dire situation we were in, but then I heard a howl ring out that made my heart flutter. Quickly, I moved to the window to see just what exactly Carl was staring at, as 1 prayed that my instinct was right about whom the howl could possibly belong to, but as I stared out the window, all I could see was the rogue wolves standing in the clearing

But I was quick to notice that these wolves were no longer staring at the cabin, but at the

vast forest that surrounded us, as if they were waiting for something or, should I say, someone’s arrival. My eyes scoped the area, as my heart began to race in my chest with the anticipation that the Ryder brothers had found me. But as I scanned the area thinking that it was one of them that I was going to see emerging from the darkness of the forest, I found myself dead wrong.
