Chapter 162-1
Raven’s POV
Out of nowhere, a sport utility vehicle came flying into the clearing like a bat out of hell, revving its engine up, before gunning it right towards a group of the rogue wolves. Without mercy, it plowed directly into them, sending a couple of rogues flying, while I watched one of them get plowed over.
Since it was the same kind of vehicle that Carl had me in last night, I assumed that it was his comrades here to save us, but as the vehicle approached the cabin, I was quick to realize that wasn’t the case. I should have known that it would be Mazie that was the one flying in here like the calvary to save my ass, but what I wasn’t expecting to see was who was sitting in the passenger seat, screaming his lungs out, while he hung on for dear life.
Mazie brought the vehicle to a halt right outside the cabin, but as soon as she did, the rogues that were still standing automatically began to gun it for her. I knew that I had to do something to help her, because there were far too many of them for her to take, even in her wolf form. Plus, I knew that she was no match for a rogue Alpha, and even though I could no longer see him, I knew that he was lurking somewhere out there.
Turning back towards the bookcase blocking the door, I began to push at it with all my might, as I said to Carl, “I have to help her.”
Instantly, I began to cough, as I had once again opened my mouth, taking smoke right into my lungs. The dampened curtains were no longer doing their job, as they were now too immersed in the thick smoke that was still entering the cabin.
Thankfully, Carl heard the plea in my voice, and before I knew it, he was by my side, removing the bookcase with ease from blocking the door. My hand immediately reached for the now exposed door handle, but I was quick to retrieve it, as I let out a scream from the immense pain.
Honestly, I don’t know why I didn’t even consider the fact that it might be hot, as it was clear that smoke comes from fire, and that was what the hell they were trying to use to lure us out. It took all the strength I had inside of me to hold back the tears from the pain, as I knew right now, I didn’t have time to worry about myself.
Carl, noticing what happened, ripped the curtain from around his face, before he quickly wrapped it around his hand and turned the knob to open the door, as steam sizzled from the doorknob, making him slightly hiss out. He, too, was quick to retrieve his hand, but only once did he succeed in opening the door.
Chapter 162-1
Unfortunately, as the door opened, and I thought we would have a clear passage to the outside world, I found it blocked by flames from the fire they had set. Both Carl and I took a step back, as my eyes tried to move past the fire to look for Mazie, but my line of vision was obscured by the massive flames in my path.
Carl’s idea of them trying to smoke us out now seemed better than the alternative, as it now seemed to me that they were in the process of trying to burn us alive, in here. The rogue Alpha that had claimed to be my cousin had made his stance with me pretty clear, that the bounty that was on my head was worth more than my life, and he was willing to do whatever it took to claim that bounty. Unfortunately for him, I wasn’t going to let him collect so easily without a fight, even if I had to walk through this damn fire in front of me to survive.
As the wind slightly shifted, so did the flames straight at me, making me once again take a step back, apprehensive of what they would do to my flesh. But that wasn’t the only thing that the wind carried in my direction, as a sound of a scream now echoed into the cabin from outside.
