Chapter 164-3
I don’t know why I thought Jacob would listen to me, because honestly, Jacob has always done what he wanted to, and just like he always does, he shakes his head at me, as he says to me, “I am not leaving you. Not like this. I told you, it’s ride or die, and I meant it.”
I watched Jacob as he stood back up outside the vehicle, and for a brief moment, I thought that just maybe he had changed his mind, but then he gave me a kind smile, before he said, “I will buy you as much time as I can.”
“What?” Came from my lips, wondering what the hell he was talking about, but then Jacob’s head turned to look behind us, and I knew what he was up to.
I screamed out, “No Jacob!” just as he took off behind us, but my pleas to him went unanswered, as he didn’t even give them the slightest acknowledgment.
Instead, Jacob leaves out one hell of a scream, overpowering mine, as his scream sounds more like a battle cry. My head turns just in time to see him charging straight towards the rogue Alpha, but as I do so, the heat from the flames draw my attention back ahead of me, as the flames feel like they are about to scorch my flesh.
My hands once again began to fumble with the seat belt, as I wished that I had a knife or something sharp to cut myself free, because I was beginning to realize that this damn thing wasn’t going to unbuckle.
As the tears continued to pour down my cheeks, I pressed my feet firmly against the floorboards, trying to push myself away from the fire, hoping that just maybe it would push my seat back, unlodging my seat belt, but unfortunately, neither of those things happened. Once again, I cried out, but this time, I know it’s not from the pain, because at this point the pain has numbed, and I am not feeling a damn thing, but fear as the flames grow higher, flaring out in all directions from under the hood.
I had now cheated death far too many times to count, and as I stared into the flames through my tear–filled eyes, I realized that this just might be what took my life. But as that realization settles in, and I try to find my peace with it, I hear a familiar howl come from behind me, giving me hope that my efforts to save Cash weren’t in vain.
As the heat became greater upon my flesh, I closed my eyes, wanting to remember all the faces that meant so much to me. Flashes of my parents came first, and then my friends in California, before the faces of those that recently became a huge part of my life.
All their faces flashing behind my closed eyes must have brought me comfort in my desperate time of need, because I no longer could feel the heat from the fire scorching my

flesh. At least that is what I had thought before I felt something or someone pulling at the seat belt across my chest.
With a bit of apprehension, I opened my eyes, fearing the worst, but as they slowly focused on the person leaning over me, I thought that I must be dead, because how on Earth was she here too?
