Chapter 165-2
Chapter 165-2
This was so much worse than the attack at the high school, because at least there I felt like we had the upper hand, but here right now, with only the five of us, things weren’t looking so good. Plus, these rogues were clearly out for blood, and they were far worse than the ones that had attacked us back in Beaumont, leaving me to wonder exactly what kind of bounty was put on my head.
Regardless of what it was, it was clear these rogues wanted it, and that they would risk their lives for the chance to get it. What I still couldn’t understand was how the word had traveled so far in such a short period of time and how on Earth they knew who I was, because let’s face it, I really didn’t think anyone was going to find me out here. Then again, the rogue wolves weren’t the only ones, as Cash, Jacob, and Lexi had found me too.
With that thought, my eyes narrowed once again as they moved back to the sport utility vehicle, and for the first time I noticed the writing on the side of it. Quickly I realized that this was a rescue vehicle, and I knew that there had to be something that might help me in one of the totes strapped to the back of the machine.
Pushing Lexi out of my damn way, I rushed back towards the machine, prying the lid off the top tote, as I began to rummage through its contents, until I found exactly what I was looking for. Pulling the orange flare gun out of the tote, Lexi took a step back from me, as ! accidentally pointed it right in her direction, but how the hell was I to know she was standing right behind me.
If she was a true friend, she would be doing something to stop all of this, since I had no doubt in my mind that she had enough power to make a difference. But even with her knowing what Cash and Mazie meant to me, she just stood there, not doing a damn thing other than getting in my way, as I was trying to do whatever I could to save my friends. I would have at least thought she would have knelt with me by Jacob’s side, but I guess that was below her pay grade now that she didn’t have to pretend to be our friend any longer.
Thankfully, though, Lexi, stepping out of my way, cleared a direct path for me to march straight forward, as I checked to make sure that the flare was loaded in the gun. For the first time, luck was on my side, as the gun was loaded and ready to go, while I prayed to God that Cash could position the rogue Alpha just right for me to get a shot off.
I’m not going to lie, that this plan makes me a bit nervous, as the last thing I want to do is be responsible for shooting Cash instead of the rogue Alpha, but looking at the two of them. I. knew if I didn’t take my chances right now, Cash might not survive this
Stopping at a safe distance, where I felt like I was close enough to hit my mark. I slowly raised the gun towards them, as I stared straight at Cash, begging for him to get out of the

way for just the briefest of seconds. But instead of him being the one to hear my thoughts, of course, the damn rogue Alpha turned his head in my direction at that moment to see me holding the flare gun straight at him.
It had totally slipped my mind that he could hear my thoughts, ruining my whole plan of catching him by surprise. Thankfully, though, it distracted him long enough for Cash to take the upper hand, as he bit down hard on the rogue Alpha’s back, making him leave out the gnarliest of a growl, before he turned around directing his paw straight towards Cash.
Cash’s wolf went sailing a good ten feet, making me gasp, as I worried if he was okay, but then I realized that he was now out of harm’s way for me to take the shot. Cocking back the hammer, the rogue Alpha’s head snaps back in my direction, as the sound must have caught his attention, drawing his eyes to me once again.
It was taking every ounce of strength I had inside of me to keep my hands steady, while everything else in my body, including my knees, was shaking.
“You and I both know that you’re not brave enough to pull the trigger.” I heard the rogue Alpha’s voice say in my head, as I didn’t dare to blink while I continued to stare at him, not wanting to show an ounce of fear, even though I was pretty sure he could clearly see it with my knees shaking away.
He was right, on any other given day I wouldn’t be brave enough to pull the trigger, but today wasn’t any of those days. Too many of those that I loved and cared about lives that were on the line, and so was mine, and that gave me the will and strength I needed to do what needed to be done to survive all of this. Hell, just moments ago, I was committing vehicular homicide, so death by flare gun didn’t seem too far out of my range today.
Keeping my voice steady, I said out loud, wanting him to hear me, “I think you clearly underestimate what I am capable of doing.” Before I pulled the trigger without an ounce of hesitation.
But to my surprise, as I pulled the trigger all the way back, not a damn thing happened, making me look away from him to the flare gun, wondering what the hell could possibly be wrong. By the looks of things, nothing seemed to be wrong with the actual gun, but it would be my luck that the flare inside the gun would be a dud.
A low growl once again filled the surrounding air, but it wasn’t the only thing that I was hearing as the rogue Alpha’s laughter filled my head like a damn hyena, making me drop the flare gun to cover my ears, as I wanted the laughter to go away.
Unfortunately, when the laughter finally did subside, his damn voice now echoed once again in my head, “You better run, because I am going to make sure you don’t get the chance to try that again.”
Chapter 165-2
My eyes widened as I stared at his wolf now baring its canines at me, with what looked like blood and saliva dripping from them, making me swallow hard, knowing that there was no way in hell that I could outrun him, even if he was slightly hurt.
